    Try Sahara Special by Esme Raji Codell. I read it every year to my 4th graders as the first read aloud. It has some language but I skip them.

  2. Sahara Special is one of my favorite reads, too!

    Vive La Paris by Codell is also very good. It is a companion book to Sahara Special, much like Small Steps is to Holes.
