Goodreads

I wanted to see all the books I've read in one place. So I did it. It took me most of the weekend, but I posted all the book reviews I've written and rated all the books I've read at Goodreads.

I'm debnance there, too.

Do I need another social networking tool for books?

I like how Goodreads meshes with Facebook and Twitter. I like how I can see what others are reading and see what they thought of what they read.

I like being able to see patterns in my reading. I like being able to search for reviews from others.

Here's what I have found after posting reviews and ratings at Goodreads. Since 2003, when I first starting reviewing (almost) every book I read, I have read 1187 books.

Wait a minute. I've read and reviewed 1187 books. That is a lot of books. An average of 200 a year. Wow.

Other intriguing patterns...I've read a lot of books about traveling and books about doctors and books about challenges and books about books. Lots of fiction, but almost as many nonfiction books.

Join me at Goodreads. I'm debnance. Join me at Bookcrossing. I'm debnance there, too. Follow me here at readerbuzz. Look for me at Facebook. I'm Debbie Nance. Twitter? debnance. Let's talk books.

  2. GoodReads is fun- more social than LibraryThing. I'm BostonBibliophile there- look me up! :-)

  3. Hi! I've requested your friendship on GoodReads, too. I just started on there in December, but love it! It helps me keep things together so well.

  4. I'm hopeful that it will be a good place to post my reviews. And we are all now friends!

  6. Those are some impressive stats!

I've heard good things about goodreads, but I'm so attached to LibraryThing that I doubt I'll ever switch over.

  7. Over 200 books a year--wow!! I wrote about book cataloging this morning as well but I don't use Goodreads or Librarything (I'm on Goodreads but never get on). I just use the plain old Excel document. :)

  8. I have a file for each year with my reviews, but each year I would use a different format, making them hard to search. One year I only rated the books...and one year I wrote reviews but didn't rate them! Confusing.

  9. I belong to both Library Thing and Good Reads. I haven't done much with Good Reads, tho. While reading your post a idea popped into my head. I used Library Thing to keep a record of all the books I own, the genre, setting, etc. So if I need to read a book set in Minnesota I can search for one from my library.

I could use Good Reads as a place to record the books I've actually read along with my review. Two different venues, each with a different purpose.

Let me just add: Two hundred books a year! Holy smokes!

  10. Two hundred books a year is ridiculous, isn't it? But I'm not a tv girl and I read really, really fast.

  12. I use Goodreads to keep track of what I've read and my TBR list. I began using Librarything to track the books my husband and I own. That list is very incomplete and I must get back to it. Another big project! I search for you on GR. Have a great week!

  13. 1187 books - wow! Now that I sell books I don't have that much time to read them anymore! :-(

  14. No, no, no. You must stop selling books if it limits your reading time. ;->

  17. I'm on GoodReads, but the truth is that I've yet to learn how to make the most of the site. I suspect I'm a Librarything girl at heart :P
