What are your biggest bookish confessions?

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

  1. I prefer short books too. I wish I could stop reading books that I don't like, they drag on so.... It's rare for me to be able to put one aside. I never read the end first, and there are even some textbooks that I like- they can actually be interesting! Although my history of medicine text was the only text that I did actually read cover to cover. Twice.

    1. I wish I read a textbook I liked. They tend to drone on and on for me, blah blah blah blah.

  2. Oh! The text book one is a good one...I dislike text books too! And come to think of it, I tend to think twice before I pick up a fat book. I do tend to pick them up often though.

  3. I like re-reading, but I rarely have time for it anymore. Sometimes I do it when I want to read the next one in a series and can't remember it well enough. I'm also not a big fan of overly-romancy fluffy books. I like my romance with a bite and I need more in the plot than just that. I find it very hard to not-finish a book even if I dislike it. I can not-finish a movie but not a book.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog earlier :D

    1. I prefer to read the new book rather than rereading the old one.

Me too, I love books but these are just nasty!

    7. I sometimes read the ending first.
Hahaha me too, just to be sure it ends the way I want. I don't do it often though...

Really? I often reread books I love, my favorites. HP, every year. :D

  5. Santa never brought me books, either - I got sports equipment. (ha!) Other than that (and not reading romances) we are sooo different.

I actually like history textbooks. I never read the ending before I'm really there - this is one reason I almost always finish books I get 50 or more pages into. I don't go to movies of any kind. I like male protagonists just fine - I'll jump into the most recent book in a series and then, if I enjoy that one - go back to book one. I have no preference of long books or short - totally depends on the book. And I often reread books I have really enjoyed which have more "meat" to them than I got in the first round - books by authors like Thomas Pynchon, Alice Munro, Salman Rushdie, others -

Otoh, I do like illustrated books - old ones especially - classics - Alice in Wonderland, A Tale of Two Cities -

Do I have any "confessions" to add?

I sometimes "speed read" (skim) those parts of books which are really boring.
I like a good sprinkling of non-fiction to go with the fiction.
I don't read poetry almost at all.

    1. Wow. You had a sporty Santa. Mine seemed drawn to encouraging unusual hobbies like woodburning and Plasticine crafts.

I like nonfiction more than fiction. (And yet another book quirk: I find the spelling "non-fiction" oddly repellent. Go figure.)

  6. Why do you only read the first book in a series? There are some great middles and ends out there (in my opinion).

    1. I don't know, I don't know. That's why it's a bookish confession, I suppose.

  7. For a long time I didn't like male protagonists either! I've gotten to where I enjoy them quite a lot now though.

    1. Some of my favorite reads have male protagonists. But I still don't seek them out.

  8. You only read the first book in a series? All series? That's kind of strange, how do you resist moving on to see what happens? I have trouble not finishing a series even if I don't really like it that much.

  9. I am the same way with re-reading! I just rather read new books.

  10. Wow. You only read the first book in the series. Interesting. I've never met someone who reads like that. I know I couldn't do it. I'm much too curious to be able to walk away. Most of the time I find myself pining for a sequel on books I really love.
