Yellowstone Summer

Yellowstone summer. This summer I've had a Yellowstone summer.

Forty years ago, I worked in Yellowstone. For the last year and half, I've planned a return trip to Yellowstone. I took a writing class this summer and spent the summer writing about Yellowstone. I bought books on Yellowstone and spent the summer reading about Yellowstone.

And I went back to Yellowstone.

I read through my Yellowstone books again, and bookcrossed them, and released them all around Yellowstone. Maybe you found one of my Yellowstone books; maybe you read one of them.

I hope you go to Yellowstone one day. Or some place like Yellowstone. A place that changes you. And lingers with you. And calls to you. So that one day you go back.

Then you can have your own Yellowstone summer.

Books read:
Photographer's Guide to Yellowstone & the Tetons
Watching Yellowstone & Grand Teton Wildlife
Day Hikes in Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone's Hot Legends and Cool Myths
A Yellowstone Reader: The National Park in Folklore, Popular Fiction, and Verse
Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park
Death in Yellowstone: Accidents and Foolhardiness in the First National Park

What is the Sunday SalonImagine some university library's vast reading room. It's filled with people--students and faculty and strangers who've wandered in. They're seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them, and they're all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go. Later they'll mill around the open dictionaries and compare their thoughts on the afternoon's literary intake....That's what happens at the Sunday Salon, except it's all virtual. Every Sunday the bloggers participating in that week's Salon get together--at their separate desks, in their own particular time zones--and read. And blog about their reading. And comment on one another's blogs. Think of it as an informal, weekly, mini read-a-thon, an excuse to put aside one's earthly responsibilities and fall into a good book. Click here to join the Salon.

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It's a chance to share news and recap the past week.

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia at The Printed Page. We share books that we found in our mailboxes last week.
It is now being hosted here.

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews in which you can share the books you've acquired.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between!  This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from! I love being a part of this and I hope you do too! As part of this weekly meme Book Journey loves to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme.

  1. Never been there but maybe some day. Farthest west I've been is Kansas. If we were to have our Yellowstone summer, it'd probably be to return to the Bahamas where my wife and I only had "overseas" vacation.

    1. Funny, but I've been West a lot, but I've rarely been East.

  5. I've never been to Yellowstone but would love to take a trip out west soon and visit all the places I missed while driving to California.

  6. I've not been to Yellowstone either. But I think I feel the same way about Oregon and the Cascades. Loved living there. Didn't get to stay long enough. We've been back twice and are planning to go again next year. So happy you got to spend some time revisiting a favorite place. And, may I confess, every time I see Yellowstone, I think of 'Jellystone' and Yogi Bear. Hey Boo Boo! You're old enough for that right? LOL

    1. Glad you have a special place. There is nothing that makes you love a place more than when you live there. (Or, I suspect, that makes you hate a place!)

I love immersing myself in a subject - especially when it involves travel.

  11. I'd love to go to Yellowstone one day. Unfortunately it's a little far for me to get to soon. Luckily I do live near some really beautiful places--Lassen and Lava Beds...which I got to spend some time in this summer. I grew up in the mountains and I miss them so much. One day I'll live there again.

  12. Very cool your trip and Yellowstone books. My brother lives not far from Yellowstone in Montana. He loves to go there. I was surprised to hear of the grizzly attack last week there but apparently the local employee was not carrying bear spray while hiking?

    1. It seemed surprising that an experienced hiker did not carry bear spray in that section of the park where bears abound.
