Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

  1. I've given up on book recommendations too... they always end up bad.. with only some being great reads

  2. Wow! That's some great steps forward right there. I need to take on board #1 and #10. I don't read a lot of series but I don't think I'm ready to let go of #6.

  3. I don't think I can ever quit reading genre fiction. But I do agree with all the rest on the list. :)

  4. I'm a keen DNFer - if I'm not grabbed in the first 50 pages or so, I'll put it down and try something else. I generally cannot bring myself to read a series out of order though!!

  5. Oh these are excellent! And would go a long way to sorting out my time management!

  6. I'm a bit confused on some of these, how do you not read to the end???? But yes it has been hard being contacted by people about books that I didn't have the time for or just didn't seem OMG AMAZING interested in and saying as much rather than overload myself so cheers! I still have to read in order though, OCD a bit there.

  7. I'm a sucker when it comes to reading bestsellers. In all honestly, that's pretty much all that I read. Oops. I should stop that.

    1. Nothing wrong with a good bestseller! Most of them sell well for a reason :P you might miss out on some really great underrated reads though..

  8. I totally subscribe to #1 and embrace my '50 page rule' (or even less). I do still like to read a series in order and I do still love my mysteries, but most of the others are A-OK in my book. Plus trying to 'read more, less reading about reading' - if that makes sense. And more exercise - but then audiobooks work perfectly. yay!

  9. I've always been pretty good about not reading the most popular books if they don't sound interesting to me. I am working on putting aside books that don't grab my interest though. It's a tough one for me!

  10. Ohhhh....I gotta read a series in order! My brain will not like it if I don't! LOL!

  11. Great list! It took me awhile to accept that it was okay to read books out of order in a series. I still prefer to read a series in order--at least if there's a story thread that runs through them all, no matter how minor, but I am not a stickler for it. I don't imagine I will ever give up genre fiction. It's my mainstay. Crime fiction. Fantasy. The occasional romance. I get the most pleasure out of those types of books.

  12. #6 - I'm pretty sure I can't give up reading a series in order. I'm kind-of a stickler on that lol. My TTT

  14. I've cut down on genre fiction, but for me there is so much that could be included in that term! I try to minimize books that are just fluff and I won't remember as soon as I put the book down. I do prefer to read books in order, although I've given up on plenty of series.

  15. I can not read a book if I don't like something about it. There has to be a little something for me to stay reading it. Great list. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Happy Reading!

  16. Great list! Not reading a series in order. I can only manage that with Discworld somewhat as there is a publication order and then there are the seperate story arcs. So I follow the story arcs and don't read in order that they were published. Though I did use to pick up books that seemed interesting, and just read them, regardless of them being the second of a series. I can't do that now anymore. I've reverted. :o

  17. Genre fiction! I used to read a lot of crime novels, but realised one day how depressing this was when you added it to the news that I deal with for work. Sticking to novels with something to tell me now :)

  18. Hilarious! I've become a big time book sample downloader, and often don't then download the rest of the book. Mainly due to saving money. I also have the hugest to be read real book pile but just keep going back online to see what is new, popular or recommended. Also I'm now addicted to bookstagram, and look at photos of books even more than I read them! We book readers are funny creatures, ha!

  19. Good list, great advice! Sometimes I have to remind myself that there are so many good books out there that I don't have to finish one that is very blah! I do like to read books in order, but sometimes I will read my first one out of order if it is readily available, then go back and start the book series from the beginning if it looks like a good one to me. Genre fiction, as I understand it to mean, no way I could give it up. It's my mainstay of reading. But to each his/her own, and with good reason. It makes for interesting conversation!

  20. I like your list. We put too pressure on ourselves as readers to feel like we must consume it all. But hell with that. I have trouble doing #1 though. I feel like I must finish the books I start. Sigh, which is not always good. In fact sometimes it can be painful.
