Paris in July: La Joie d'un Mois à Paris (The Joy of a Month in Paris)

Week Two of Paris in July is over, and I have delighted in another week in Paris Divine.

WHAT ARRIVED FROM THE LIBRARY

Now that I am retired, I have more freedom to use my neighboring libraries. Look what came in for me at the library this week:

Let's move in a little closer, shall we?

Lessons from Madame Chic
A Paris Year
Five Hundred Buildings of Paris
The Paris Cookbook
A Paris Neighborhood Cookbook
All Paris
100 Old Masters Paintings from the Louvre Museum
Painting: Musee d'Orsay
Spectacular Paris
Surrealism in Paris

A lot of beautiful coffee table books to enjoy.

WHAT I READ AND AM READING

I also finished a Paris book and started five more.

Lessons from Madame Chic: 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living in Paris
The Paris Cookbook by Patricia Wells
Forever Paris: 25 Walks in the Footsteps of Chanel, Hemingway, Picasso, and More
Paris in the Present Tense: A Novel
We'll Always Have Paris: A Novel

PARIS-THEMED MOVIES

When you celebrate Paris in July for a number of years, you find that you have read and viewed many of the best Paris-themed books and movies; as we say here in Texas, your pickins get slim.

I had to dig very, very deep and I finally came up with these movies from my public library:

Yes, Ma and Pa Kettle go to Paris.

And do you remember this Paris star? Pepe Le Pew. Somehow skunks never seem to get the girls.

PARIS-THEMED TV
A friend told me about a new detective series on PBS, Maigret. It's set in Paris, and it's excellent.

One of the posts I loved reading this week was from The Gypsy Marmelade. Take a look at Favorite French Cookbooks when you get a chance.

It was a busy week. July 15th is our fortieth wedding anniversary. We already celebrated by taking a trip to Italy and Paris, but we are planning to spend the day with a big breakfast out and the new Mr. Rogers documentary.

What is the Sunday SalonImagine some university library's vast reading room. It's filled with people--students and faculty and strangers who've wandered in. They're seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them, and they're all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go. Later they'll mill around the open dictionaries and compare their thoughts on the afternoon's literary intake....That's what happens at the Sunday Salon, except it's all virtual. Every Sunday the bloggers participating in that week's Salon get together--at their separate desks, in their own particular time zones--and read. And blog about their reading. And comment on one another's blogs. Think of it as an informal, weekly, mini read-a-thon, an excuse to put aside one's earthly responsibilities and fall into a good book. Click here to join the Salon.

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It's a chance to share news and recap the past week.

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia at The Printed Page. We share books that we found in our mailboxes last week.
It is now being hosted here.

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews in which you can share the books you've acquired.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between!  This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from! I love being a part of this and I hope you do too! It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is now being hosted at The Book Date.

Please join the weekly meme at An Accidental Blog. Share with the rest of us your passion for France. Did you read a good book set in France? See a movie? Take a photo in France? Have an adventure? Eat a fabulous meal or even just a pastry? Or if you're in France now, go ahead and lord it over the rest of us. We can take it.

  2. Happy anniversary! Is it only coincidental that it is so close to Bastille Day? :)
I am planning to prepare an authentic French meal paired with Burgundy wines at our family vacation on the lake. I will definitely check out Gypsy Marmalade's post for inspiration.

  4. Your books look interesting — I’ve never gotten around to the Patricia Wells books about French food. At the moment I’m trying to find books that were written by French people in French. Though I usually read in translation because I’m slow with the original. I’m not sure, but I think all of yours were originally in English by non-French people.

  13. How fun! I would love to read the cookbooks. My favorite art is the impressionists and I loved the Musee de'Orsay. I enjoy all the detective stuff so I'm sure I would love Maigret if I watched tv. As for movies, what about American in Paris with Lily Caron, isn't it? Anne - Books of My Heart

  21. Congratulations to you both on your 40th anniversary! I love it that you're going to celebrate with the Mr Rogers documentary. I had to laugh that you found Ma and Pa Kettle Go To Paris! I assume it was awful? I hope they at least went to Paris so there was some real scenery and not just studio Paris.
