It is gut-wrenching ...I really loved A Little Life. It is gut-wrenching beautiful but no matter how many times I tell you this, you won't be prepared for it. It's like getting kicked in the stomach and not being able to breathe. My one recommendation is to read it when you have a good chunk of time you can take to recover from it because it affected me for months and made other reading really difficult.
