Holly Black
I was not expecting a story with so much depth.
I wonder if her other books are as well written.
Barbara Pym
This book was my favorite book of 2018.
Slyly humorous. With a quietly bold main character.
Jane Austen
No excuse for this.
Travis Jonker
Don't you love it when a person you know publishes a book?
And it turns out to be a wonderful book?
Juana Martinez-Neal
One of my favorite books of last year.
Let's hope Ms. Martinez-Neal is busily writing away.
Meg Wolitzer
(embarrassed) I thought Meg Wolitzer wrote...uh-hem...romance novels.
I'm sorry, Meg.
Yasunari Kawabata
I have two more books of his awaiting me.
Gaston Leroux
I finally got around to Phantom of the Opera.
John Kennedy Toole
If you love New Orleans, you need to read this one.
You will never meet such a wonderful cast of characters.
Anton Chekhov
I hope to read more Chekhov later this year.
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each Tuesday That Artsy Reader Girl assigns a topic and then post her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.
Nice! Lots of new to me ones here! Except for Holly! I read her books ages ago though I still need to read her latest!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
so glad you read Gaston Leroux!
ReplyDeleteHooray for Barbara Pym, Jane Austen, and Meg Wolitzer - three of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteConfession: I tried to read Confederacy of Dunces when came out, because my older sister kept talking about how funny and wonderful it was. I HATED it.
ReplyDeleteI was 11.
So maybe I should try again? Hmm.
Also, I have Barbara Pym and Josephine Tey conflated into my head as one author, for some odd reason. I take it Pym does not write mysteries. I liked Black's Coldest Girl in Coldtown, but not enough that I felt compelled to read her latest books, however everyone seems really excited about them, so maybe I will.
The cover of Snow Country is lovely.
Wasn't Confederancy of Dunces hilarious? I loved that book. And, love Barbara Pym & Jane Austen. You read some great books!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone need an excuse to read Austen?
ReplyDeleteHolly Black made my list this week too. I read and loved Jane Austen's novels years ago but really would like to go back and re-read them at some point.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have found many new authors last year that I'd like to check out.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading to you in 2019!! I hope you find more new to you authors this year.
Here's a link to my TTT post this week: https://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2019/01/top-ten-tuesday-new-to-me-authors-i.html
Jane Austen! Essential classics, I'm glad you got to her. And Holly Black was mostly new to me, too. I think I've read several short stories by her so that kind of counts but The Cruel Prince was my first full length story by her. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteIt's so great to learn about new authors that we end up enjoying. My big one for 2018 was Kristin Hannah.
ReplyDeleteI've only read one Barbara Pym (Quartet in Autumn, quite some time ago), but I loved it. I've bought a few more of hers, I need to read them.
