Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each Tuesday That Artsy Reader Girl assigns a topic and then post her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.
Ooh nice picks! Loved Madeline as a kid! It's been ages since I read The Count, so I nearly forgot that took place in Paris or partially, maybe. Lol. I've a few retelling/inspiration books that I need to read still for that one! Great picks!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I read “The Count of Monte Cristi” way, way back. Other than this one classic I have not read any of the other titles. I will hide in the corner in shame!
ReplyDeleteNice list, Deb! I haven't read any of these, but I'm familiar with several. Thanks for sharing.

I've been on a bit of an Edith Wharton kick lately, so I just added The Custom of the Country to my Goodreads TBR. I had never heard of it!
ReplyDeleteHere is my TTT: https://thissideofstoryland.blogspot.com/2025/07/top-ten-tuesday-books-set-during.html
Someone else had a Paris theme as well this week. So fun. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I am always adding titles to my Goodreads when I visit book bloggers.
ReplyDeleteMonte Cristo is such an intimidating chonkster but I'm determined to read it one day!
ReplyDeleteGreat list. My favorite Paris books include The Paris Hours and Hunting and Gathering.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these, but I have been reading the Aimee Leduc series by Cara Black, which are set in Paris.
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
These look good. I'll have to check a few out.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me that I will visit Paris in September with my daughter.
ReplyDeleteI've read half of them! The others look good too!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading one right now that's set in Paris - The Collector of Burned Books by Roseanna M. White :) My TTT
ReplyDeleteSuper topic. I liked Suite Francaise and enjoyed skimming Paris in Winter. I've always loved Madeline!! Mrs. Harris is popular today! Have you read My Mrs. Brown by William Norwich--a take on Mrs. Harris? It was in my list last week.
ReplyDeleteAh ah, I used my TBR, and we have one book in common. Maybe you can enlighten me on Mrs Harris or 'Arris.

Thanks for the list.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how you are staying true to Paris in July with your posts :) So fun.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I was editing my #ParisinJuly2025 page, so I listed your post, even though you didn't add it to Mr Linky
ReplyDeleteLovely collection!

It's been ages since I read The Custom of the Country. I read a lot of Edith Wharton books way back when.
ReplyDeleteDeb, you are so bad for my TBR list. I always want to just swipe your list and implant it onto my TBR. At this rate I will have to live a whole second life to finish all the books I want to read that have already been published and the problem, new ones are published all the time. I just finished Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris. Cute. So cute.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a good list! I'm not actually sure how many books I've read set in Paris... maybe not many. 🤔
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I have only read two of these? The two I have read are Mrs Harris Goes to Paris and Suite Francaise
ReplyDeleteInteresting list. I've only read two of them.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how much I read, I find there's too much I haven't read.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these! If I were to choose just one, which would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteDear Paris by Janice Macleod and Paris in Winter: An Illustrated Memoir are love letters to Paris, with lovely text and illustrations. Suite Française by Irène Némirovsky and The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas are brilliant works of literary fiction set in Paris. L'Assommoir by Émile Zola shows the desperation of life among the poor while The Custom of the Country by Edith Wharton shows the desperation of life among the rich. Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris by Paul Gallico has a hardworking woman use her money for her dream. Paris to the Moon by Adam Gopnik is the story of the Gopnik family's move to Paris. Crêpes by Suzette by Monica Wellington and Madeleine by Ludwig Bemelmans are fun little picture books.
DeleteSo, to answer your question (sort of): I couldn't choose just one!
Aw I loved Madeline so much as a child. I read them all to Wyatt too, and thought they were still such good books.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these except The Count of Monte Cristo, but I've read the Count more than ten times, and I'm currently reading it again now! Still, I should probably branch out my Paris reading a little! 😂
