Here they are (in no particular order):
Siberia is terribly intriguing,
though I'd never really want to go there.
Too cold.
A history of Paris told through the lives of Parisians.
I'm reading this in January.
(Maybe I should say,
I'm starting this in January.)
I've been coveting this since
the 2009 Texas Book Festival.
An upcoming group read.
Love travel narratives.
In the spring,
I'm taking a photography class.
Continuing my pursuit of all things French.
I will learn Spanish in 2011.
I know it will be a brilliant novel.
I also know it will be a depressing novel.
Haven't been in the mood for depressing,
but maybe next year....
So that's it...ten books I hope Santa brings.
What do you hope Santa brings to you?
Each week we will post a new Top Ten list complete with one of our bloggers’ answers. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND post a comment on our post with a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post to share with us and all those who are participating. If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. If you can't come up with ten, don't worry about it---post as many as you can!
HA. I can't believe how similar our lists are! I recently bought myself Parisians, A complete Conan Doyle, and Freedom (one of the many, many books I bought at a $5 sale in town here, unheard of prices in Australia). I bought Everything I Need To Know I Learned from a Childrens Book a year or so ago from Amazon. I thought you spoke some Spanish already? Is it easy to go to Spanish classes in Texas? I'll leave War and Peace and Siberia alone though I think.
ReplyDeleteI have both Freedom and 13 Rue Therese on my TBR pile, but there is no way I will get to either of them before the New Year...
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your holidays!
I don't know any of these books sadly. But I do hope you get them! :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list! I like the fact that one of yours is a language book, but I am biased because I used to be a linguist in the Army and am a total foreign language dork! Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteThis list looks great though I am not familiar with the books. Thanks for dropping by. :)
ReplyDeleteFreedom is on my list as well! and I like the sounds of Parisians.
ReplyDeleteI do know Spanish, Louise, but this year I am determined to speak it well. I'm going to immerse myself in it...and practice, practice, practice.
ReplyDeleteYou are a braver soul than I! I've signed up for Allie's two other RaLs (Rebecca & Women in White) but passed on War & Peace. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I just picked up a collection of Sherlock Holmes. Is your group read online and open to one more member??
Great list, I do hope you get to learn Spanish in 2011 and Santa brings you all these books. =D
ReplyDeleteFreedom is on my list! I read Anna Karenina last year and I still don't have the patience to pick up War and Peace, but it will be read at some point. Good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteYou have introduced me to some wonderful titles here! Of course I love both of the French books (and look forward to reading your reviews) and the photography book and class sound wonderful to me (this is something that I truly want to focus on in 2011), but I think the title that captures my attention most is Everything I need to know I Learned from a Children's Book.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find lots of these under the tree and have some free time to read them during Christmas Break.
The all i needed to know sounds great. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat books am I hoping to get from Santa?
ReplyDelete1. Hunger Games triology box set by Suzanne Collins
2. Millennium/Girl with the Dragon Tattoo box set by Stieg Larsson
3. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
4. Matched by Ally Condie
5. Vampire Academy box set by Richelle Mead
6. Of Thee I Sing by President Barack Obama
7. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
8. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
9. Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks
10. Strange Fate by L.J. Smith
I hope you get all the books that you want! I went on a major book-buying spree a few months ago so there's only one or two books left that I still want!
ReplyDeleteI'm on a French/Parisian kick myself -- Parisians and 13 rue Therese are going on my to-read list.
ReplyDeleteI have the paperback edition of the War&Peace translation you are hoping for. It's a brick to carry around, but a very enjoyable novel.
Happy Holidays!
wow such a productive list! learning Spanish and digital photography-sounds like a very fun year ahead!
ReplyDeleteHey! Thanks for stopping by! That's quite the list you have. Wouldn't be my picks, too heavy for me but I hope Santa is good to you!
ReplyDeleteFreedom isn't too depressing. You'll love it, I promise! I'm also WAY excited for 13 rue Thérèse
ReplyDeleteThat is a very lofty list. Many of those books are on my TBR. I hope you get them.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting the "Everything I need to know..." book for a while now, too. Hope you get it soon!
ReplyDeleteThat book on Paris sounds really interesting. I'll have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI have Freedom but I've yet to read it - kind of waiting until all the hype around it has died down, it's getting there! So hopefully I'll get to it early in 2011.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with War and Peace! I am toying with the idea of reading some Russian literature next year but I may start off smaller than that.
Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog. I love that you're reading the Hound of the Baskervilles, I think it's the only Sherlock I haven't read (mostly because I've seen the movie like a gazillion of times) enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI live, and grew up, in upstate New York. The REAL upstate, not what silly NYC people like to call "upstate." I can take Siberia!
ReplyDeleteOh, the Hound of the Baskerviless! Such a great Holmes story! I think it's my favorite of the longer works.
ReplyDeleteHere's my list for Santa: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2010/12/top-ten-tuesday-wishlist-for-santa.html
You've got some good picks. I think there is actually a blog that is reading a chapter of War and Peace a week and then once a month or so there is a discussion about it. I was thinking of joining and trying. It might be the only way I actually read it. :) My list is here if you're interested http://bookworm-meags222.blogspot.com/2010/12/top-ten-tuesdays-5-dear-santa-please.html
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays and Happy Reading!
Great list! War and Peace would have been on my list, but I've already gotten it for Christmas- hooray! The Siberian and French ones look like books I'd like, too. Hope this weekend brings you lots of good books!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I hope Santa brings some :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with War and Peace. Some day I shall start reading it.
ReplyDeleteScholarly choices.
ReplyDeleteWar and Peace actually didn't take me too long to read. Then again, I didn't do much that month-and-a-half but read it, so perhaps I'm not offering very comforting words... It's a wonderful book, though. Worth the label of "classic".
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have some ambitious plans for 2011! Have fun with that photography class, and with all those wonderful books!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great list and some interesting books hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI just bought that nice new edition of War and Peace to read in 2011. My husband and I are going to read a couple of chapters together every day. It is a nice edition.
ReplyDeleteHope you got what you wanted from Santa and enjoyed a wonderful holiday!
