TLA 2011: A Photoblog Post

There is nothing like
the Texas Library Association Conference.

And there is nothing like going to TLA
in Austin!

Austin, Texas!
From my hotel window.

TLA always means fantastic authors.

And various odd creatures,
ready and eager to come to your library.

Even Wonder Woman,
making an appearance at the Capstone Breakfast.

Here we librarians sit,
awaiting the bats
arising from under a bridge over Town Lake.

My first political rally!
Two thousand librarians
on the steps of the Texas Capitol,
pleading with the legislators
to think about children.

My haul:
56 posters,
3 t-shirts,
12 tote bags,
2 stuffed animals,
1 puppet,
and...
170 books!

  1. WOW sounds like a wonderful convention. Great photos. I so hope all legislators realize just how important libraries are to the young and old alike. Love your haul, especially the totes and the books. :)

  2. WOW that's some haul there Debbie. Looks like you had a fantastic time. Are they all library books? Or some for the home library? (I am possibly slow, and not used to big cities out the window, but it took me a while to work out the perspective of your first photo! D'Oh! Curtains).

  3. My back is hurting from carrying all those books the three blocks from the conference center to the hotel.

  4. Awesome! I think participating in a political rally, whatever your persuasion, is something everyone should do at some point in their lives. It is so great to feel like many others out there feel as you do and that voices together can make a difference

  5. How fantastic!! Sounds like it was heaps of fun. Good on you all for the rally. Agree whole-heartedly. I went back to my hometown last week after a very long absence and drove by my old library (no time to go in). It reminded me what a cornerstone of my reading development it had been and how hugely necessary libraries are.

    Also - great swag!! :D

  11. I miss going to TLA! I used to work for Linworth Publishing/Library Media Connection (now a part of ABC-Clio) and those conferences were so much fun! I met a lot of great people down there and sold lots of books! Looks like the trip was quite a success for you :)
