DeleteGreat selection! I was lucky to have my dream job (bookseller) for over a decade. Nothing better than organizing the books and talking to customers about my recommendations (and getting some from them, as well). If you haven't read The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin, I can recommend it. The main character owns a bookstore and I loved the characters.

DeleteWhat an enjoyable theme - I was pleased to see Coffee Shop Owner as a bookish job. That would be the type who doesn't mind people lingering over their coffee for hours while they read or talk about books. This whole post makes me want to read more books about bookish people.

DeleteWhat a great choice. If I hadn't dreamed of having your job all my life, that would have been my second choice. Having said that, I would have loved to be a librarian myself, as well. I did help in all the schools my boys went to not just in the classrooms but also in their libraries.

I was surprised not to find Carlos Ruiz Zafón's on your list. His books about the "cemetary of forgotten books" are great. If it interests you, start with "The Shadow of the Wind".

ReplyDeleteI love your list! The careers in books I am attracted to are book related ones such as editor or author. I also love stories where the focus is a gardener, especially on a large estate with huge gardens and then there is a musical career choices that atrract me as well.

Penumbra's bookstore (and of course being a librarian and a bookseller) made it on my list too!my packhorse librarian was Cussy from The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek (the book that is forever entwined with The Giver of Stars)
