What is the Sunday Salon?
The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.
Last week was a blur of activity, and I spent the first part of this week resting up from last week.
On Friday we returned to Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary to host there, and Saturday and Sunday we will be volunteering at Migration Celebration at San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge. On Monday, we are planning to get together with my book friend, Mae, and her husband, who are in town to do some birding of their own.
What I Read Last Week:
The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan (Reread)
How to Be Perfect: The Correct Answer to Every Moral Question by Michael Schur
What I'm Reading Now:
Finger Exercises for Poets by Dorianne Laux (Writing)
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (Classic; Buddy Read)
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree (Fiction)
I completed ten independent bookstore visits this month and turned in my Houston Bookstore Crawl bingo card. I wrote up short posts on every bookstore I visited which I will publish starting in May.
What I Posted Last Week Here at Readerbuzz:

I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic.
Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things.
Here are 3 Good Things from last week:
Good Thing #1:
Baltimore Oriole in the backyard pecan tree.
Good Thing #2:
Beautiful purple flowers
popping up
in the front yard.
Good Thing #3:
A green tree frog
on my plumeria.
Ooh, a bingo card for a bookstore crawl sounds like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the volunteering!
We also enjoyed the birds in migration, having traveled to the east of Houston this week, and we are looking forward to seeing you in person on Monday! I’m so glad that you have been hosting the Sunday Salon and that virtual friends can become real.
ReplyDeletebest… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
That's wonderful you will be watching the birds at the Refuge and also meeting up with Mae. It's nice when bloggers can meet up in person. Enjoy the Dickens read. And that green frog is something to see!
ReplyDeleteHi nice that you and Mae met up! What a lovely community we have. I love the idea of a bingo bookstore crawl as well. Have a lovely weekend Deb.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at the versatility of Amy Tan, author of novels, illustrator of birds, etc.
ReplyDeleteI've been on the lookout for orioles but haven't seen one yet. Lucky you to have had one in your pecan tree! I have, however, encountered several little green tree frogs over the last several days and have been delighted to hear their "peeps" when I am outside. Wonderful little critters.
ReplyDeleteBook Bird Dog is back (Harvee's original blog). Come visit!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeletePlease read my post
ReplyDeleteWell done on the bookstore crawl! And I'm so glad you got back out birding! Big smiles. Happy week!
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you and Mae got to see each other in person! I will hit my local indie bookstore today to shop local, support books and reading, etc. I may spend too much money.
ReplyDeleteI understand needing to rest up, LOL, the downside of getting older. Overall, it sounds like a nice week. Enjoy your visit with Mae and her husband.
ReplyDeleteI would love to do a bookstore crawl! I've had a post drafted of a list for a few months of the best bookstores to visit in Florida. After reading this post I want to post it :) I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have so many independent bookstores where you are. The tree frog, flowers and Oriole are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe bookstore crawl sounds like so much fun. Congrats on finishing it. Great pics! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe bookstore crawl sounds like a lot of fun! The signs of Spring are wonderful too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful week!
So many nice birding experiences!
ReplyDeleteAnd the oriole is gorgeous. We don't see them around my yard until July-August here, when it's really hot
You make all the birding look so fun, but I cannot commit to another hobby! LOL I do put out bird feeders regularly, and just hung out some cut oranges, since we usually get orioles through in early spring. Hope to see some again this year!
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you're meeting up with Mae! Love that Oriole and the green tree frog! We get the frogs here and they're so cute. It's amazing how such a small frog can make so much noise! Have a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've been busy. Enjoy meeting up with Mae. I enjoyed Legends & Lattes and hope you do as well.
ReplyDeleteBravo on your indie bookstore visits! I went to five this past month and purchased more books than I need, but I love to support those stores! Wonderful that you and Mae are getting together. I'm sure you'll both have a grand time. Cute tree frog and what a treat to spot that oriole!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your successful bookstore crawl! I know each and every one of those stores appreciated your visit. I wish I could have gotten up to DC and Northern Virginia for their bookstore crawl, but between working and attending a virtual conference, I wasn't able to visit even one of our closer indie bookstores.
ReplyDeleteLove the oriole and the tree frog, and your purple flowers. And the volunteering you are doing sounds awesome.
Love the oriole, tiny green frog, and bookcrawl bingo card! And how fun that you guys will meet up with Mae and her husband!
ReplyDeleteLove the little green tree frog. He blended right in with the rest of the plant.
ReplyDeleteLovin' your pics and I love birdwatching from my own backyard.
ReplyDeleteThe oriole is beautiful! I love the bingo card. We have a few bookstores that have opened here recently and I have really been enjoying them. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and full week you had! Volunteering at the bird sanctuary and wildlife refuge sounds incredibly rewarding — I can only imagine how beautiful it must be during migration season. I love how you balance busy activities with meaningful reading and reflection. Also, your "3 Good Things" are such a lovely practice — spotting a Baltimore Oriole and a green tree frog sounds magical! Thank you for sharing such positive and inspiring moments with us.
ReplyDeleteI love your green tree frog!!! I always wish I would find one outside here. Lol
ReplyDeleteI hope you got to meet Mae and Len. They are wonderful people! And wow -- that oriole! I've never seen a green tree frog. He's cute! And well done on the bookstore hop. That sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a busy week. I enjoyed your photos. I don't know if I've ever seen a Baltimore Oriole. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos of the bird and the frog. Nice to do a book crawl, would be fun looking through them all.
ReplyDeleteThe oriole and the tree frog are just gorgeous - and good job on the pics! I'm excited to see you're reading Legends & Lattes. I really enjoyed that one! Hope you do too!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a nature appreciator and educator! How lovely to have such a peaceful interest. I’m looking forward to your May posts about your bookstore crawl!

I love your three good things! Enjoy your week and your books.
ReplyDeleteWow, you have been busy, but how wonderful to meet up with a friend you haven't seen for awhile. I love that little tree frog, it would be easy to miss. Bookstore Bingo sounds fun. I hope you have been having another wonderful week, Deb.
ReplyDeleteI love the nature shots and what a beautiful bird that oriole is!
ReplyDeleteUnpopular opinion but I liked Rules of Civility so much more than Gentleman of Moscow.
ReplyDeleteLove that beautiful oriole. And how marvellous to have a pecan tree in your backyard.
ReplyDeletecheers
