"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy one is unhappy in its own way."
Here are some happy families
I met in books along the way:
Little Women
The Penderwicks
Swallows and Amazons
Half Magic
The Saturdays
Wrinkle in Time
Little House on the Prairie
Cheaper by the Dozen
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
All-of-a-Kind Family
101 Dalmatians
My Family and Other Animals
Finn Family Moomintroll
Dick and Jane: Fun With Our Family
The Story of the Von Trapp Family Singers

I love the girls in Little Women! I wouldn't mind being part of that family either. Love your list :)
ReplyDeleteRoll of thunder, hear my cry, i so loved that book
ReplyDeleteWow, I've never heard of "The Story of the Von Trapp Family Singers". But now I'm intrigued ... I love The Sound of Music.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic list!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea including Cheaper By the Dozen and Roll of Thunder---loved both of those books! I included Little Women as well!
ReplyDeleteYay! Little Women is on your list! And 101 Dalmatians, how cute! :) I still need to read A Wrinkle in Time.
ReplyDeleteLots of great books and families here. I love your quote from Tolstoy at the beginning! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your list, as always. Some great books there, a few I haven't read, but have meant to, and one or two that I haven't heard of, but will endeavour to stumble across now.
ReplyDeleteI love that you included 101 Dalmatians :) That would be a very large family :p
ReplyDeleteThere are so many books on this list that I want to read, but I haven't. Great list!
ReplyDeleteWe have a match! Little House on the Prairie!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten about half-magic - that was an awesome book! And I love the family in Little Women. I hope my family can be as good as they are some day!
ReplyDeleteI loved the families in A Wrinkle in Time, Dalmations, Little House and Little Women. I totally want to hang out with the Walker Children!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful list! I mentioned Batty Penderwick in mine, and if I could have decided which one to go with, I probably would have chosen a Melendy as well. I also almost put Charles Wallace on my list, and then changed my mind. So many great choices - love it!
ReplyDeleteInteresting and great choices, stop and see mine.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of featuring entire literary families. Little Women was a wonderful family to read about, even though they were incomplete with an absent father.
ReplyDeleteAw, I love that you've chosen whole families! I'd love to be part of the March family, and the family in Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry :)
ReplyDeleteMy list is here :) http://devouringtexts.blogspot.com/2011/03/top-ten-tuesday_15.html
Love the list! Great blog. I'm following now.
ReplyDeleteMarjie, yes, I had Mrs. Eubanks, too. Did not get to hear her read aloud (and, yes, teachers---even sixth grade teachers---these days are asked to read aloud a lot to their kids) as she had moved to science that year. Our sixth grade language arts/homeroom teacher, sadly, did not do readalouds. I'm fascinated with the picture of Mrs. Eubanks reading Swallows and Amazons aloud.
