Who are authors you see as neglected?

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! Very good list! I recognized a few on your list and agree that they have been under-recognized. Here's mine: http://bookbelle0819.blogspot.com/2011/03/top-ten-authors-that-deserved-more.html
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI recognise about six names but have only read one (a sign they are under recognised I think). Anne Tyler is the one I read and it was only the one book. I very much enjoyed it and just haven't got round to reading others. Should rectify that.
I like your list. I am more familiar with two names. Thus carol Shields and Naipaul. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have thought to include Carol Shields. She's plenty famous where I'm from.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, on Truman Capote! I think more people need to read Breakfast at Tiffany's in addition to the rest of his work. Carol Shields is another great one. Just love your list!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that Louis Sachar is under-appreciated. When I was growing up I read almost all of his books and they were always funny and clever.
ReplyDeleteI'd say that another, similar, author who deserves more recognition is Gordon Korman.
I read The Chosen by Potok in college! Great book.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame when an author falls out of fashion, like Louis Sachar -- great author, but because there's not a movie adaptation coming out anytime soon, people forget. Such short memories we have...
Some wonderful choices. I have read and enjoyed James Thurber (his short stories rock), Chaim Potok (The Chosen), and Louis Sachar (The Wayside School and others!!!). Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteI only recognized one name, so I'm guessing they are under recognized indeed (or I really need to read more :p).
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if I've already sent in a comment. I like that you've added Naipaul and Carol Shields in your list. I have one Naipaul book on my shelves and look forward to reading it soon. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCapote! Definitely!
ReplyDeleteLouis Sachar...of the Wayside Stories series? :-D I loved those as a kid.
ReplyDeleteHmm, will check these out. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have Carol Shields on my tbr list, and have ummed and ahhed over reading Capote.
Thanks for sharing.
Yay! Finally someone with an author who I've actually read one of their books--Anne Tyler. Even though her genre of writing isn't typically a book I would read, I thought her writing was fantastic and I may try more of her books in the future.
ReplyDeleteGreat list, some I never heard of, stop and see mine.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I was thinking Truman Capote too! In Cold Blood is completely amazing! I haven't actually heard of a lot of these authors, probably because they are underappreciated, but I know that Naipaul is supposed to be amazing too... Hmmm, I have a lot to read...
ReplyDeleteChaim Potok!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm ashamed to admit, but I don't know an of the authors on your list :(
ReplyDeleteI promise to check them out! Thanks for bringing them to my attention :) It's always great to learn something new!
I recognize all of the names, but I have to admit I've only read Capote and Sachar. It's always nice to get a push to take a closer look at books/authors you've noticed at the library, so I'll consider this my push! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI only know 2 names from your list I think! I have a Truman Capote novel on my TBR shelf and I recognise V.S Naipaul but that's it! I shall have to do some research into your list.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of any of those myself, except Capote, so there's more to check out. The list just keeps growing...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your list!
I haven't read any of these authors, although they are familiar. I had bumped up Angle of Repose on my list of things to read, but it seems to have been bumped back again.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my post here: http://hawthornescarlet.blogspot.com/2011/03/top-ten-tuesday-check-um-out.html
Have you read Anne Tyler's Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant? It's one of my favorite books of all time.
ReplyDeleteLove that Anne Tyler book. You and I are so much alike!
ReplyDeleteI don't know most of the names on your list. They really must be neglected. I love Louis Sacher though. I read Wayside School to a class of sixth graders and realized anew who clever he is.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. I will have to check out some of those authors.
ReplyDeleteI don't recognize any of them I'm sad to say.
ReplyDeleteAnn
All of the names are familar, but I have actually read only half of them...
ReplyDeleteIn Cold Blood gave me nightmares for days...loved all the Potok books I read, particularly My Name is Asher Lev.
Truman Capote.. He is on my wishlist. Guess I need to bump him up a few and read his book..

I have read all but one of the names on the list. I'll be checking out books by Carol Shields from work today.
ReplyDeleteI'm especially fond of Carol Shields' books, Happenstance and The Republic of Love. Lots of people prefer Stone Diaries.
ReplyDeleteI've not read anything from any of these authors. I will have to check them out.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten: http://kimberlyfayereads.wordpress.com/2013/07/16/top-ten-authors-who-deserve-more-recognition-2/
Great list. I've heard of 8 of them, but have read only 5 - and must check out the 2 I don't recognize at all!
ReplyDeleteAll of them, I have no clue who they are or what they write
ReplyDeleteKa'u Hawanawana @ http://tenuinanoa.blogspot.com/
Well, then they definitely need more recognition!
ReplyDeleteLouis Sachar! Childhood right there! The man is a genius - it's as simple as that.
ReplyDeleteHere's my own list!
