  1. Very good list! I recognized a few on your list and agree that they have been under-recognized. Here's mine: http://bookbelle0819.blogspot.com/2011/03/top-ten-authors-that-deserved-more.html

  2. Hi,

I recognise about six names but have only read one (a sign they are under recognised I think). Anne Tyler is the one I read and it was only the one book. I very much enjoyed it and just haven't got round to reading others. Should rectify that.

  3. I like your list. I am more familiar with two names. Thus carol Shields and Naipaul. Cheers!

  4. I wouldn't have thought to include Carol Shields. She's plenty famous where I'm from.

  5. Yes, yes, on Truman Capote! I think more people need to read Breakfast at Tiffany's in addition to the rest of his work. Carol Shields is another great one. Just love your list!

  6. I definitely agree that Louis Sachar is under-appreciated. When I was growing up I read almost all of his books and they were always funny and clever.

I'd say that another, similar, author who deserves more recognition is Gordon Korman.

  7. I read The Chosen by Potok in college! Great book.

It's a shame when an author falls out of fashion, like Louis Sachar -- great author, but because there's not a movie adaptation coming out anytime soon, people forget. Such short memories we have...

  8. Some wonderful choices. I have read and enjoyed James Thurber (his short stories rock), Chaim Potok (The Chosen), and Louis Sachar (The Wayside School and others!!!). Thanks for the memories!

  9. I only recognized one name, so I'm guessing they are under recognized indeed (or I really need to read more :p).

  10. I am not sure if I've already sent in a comment. I like that you've added Naipaul and Carol Shields in your list. I have one Naipaul book on my shelves and look forward to reading it soon. Thanks.

  13. Yay! Finally someone with an author who I've actually read one of their books--Anne Tyler. Even though her genre of writing isn't typically a book I would read, I thought her writing was fantastic and I may try more of her books in the future.

  14. Great list, some I never heard of, stop and see mine.

  15. Oooh, I was thinking Truman Capote too! In Cold Blood is completely amazing! I haven't actually heard of a lot of these authors, probably because they are underappreciated, but I know that Naipaul is supposed to be amazing too... Hmmm, I have a lot to read...

  16. I'm ashamed to admit, but I don't know an of the authors on your list :(
I promise to check them out! Thanks for bringing them to my attention :) It's always great to learn something new!

  17. I recognize all of the names, but I have to admit I've only read Capote and Sachar. It's always nice to get a push to take a closer look at books/authors you've noticed at the library, so I'll consider this my push! Thanks for sharing.

  18. I only know 2 names from your list I think! I have a Truman Capote novel on my TBR shelf and I recognise V.S Naipaul but that's it! I shall have to do some research into your list.

  19. I haven't heard of any of those myself, except Capote, so there's more to check out. The list just keeps growing...

    Thanks for sharing your list!

  20. I haven't read any of these authors, although they are familiar. I had bumped up Angle of Repose on my list of things to read, but it seems to have been bumped back again.

  23. I don't know most of the names on your list. They really must be neglected. I love Louis Sacher though. I read Wayside School to a class of sixth graders and realized anew who clever he is.

  29. I'm especially fond of Carol Shields' books, Happenstance and The Republic of Love. Lots of people prefer Stone Diaries.
