New Mural in Town

My blogging friend, Jackie, of Junkboat Travels, is always posting amazing photos of the art in Toronto (almost 3 million people) where she lives. I wish we had lots of art here in my small town of Alvin, Texas (25,000 people) and I was delighted to see this lovely mural go up on a bare brick wall across the street from the Episcopal Church. Each week since January of 2020, the Houston Food Bank has brought 8,000-10,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to the Episcopal Church to be distributed each Thursday. It is estimated that over 1,000 people have been fed each week during the pandemic from this drive-thru mobile food pantry.

  2. The reference to loaves and fishes is very poignant in this mural celebrating the food pantry for your town! I love murals and I'm lucky to live in a town that supports outdoor art -- last fall, the local Art Association raised $50,000 to sponsor a number of murals. Painting a mural is an expensive endeavor when it's done well. Good to see yours.

  3. Wow, this is beautiful. I love murals like this. My city had started a big mural project in our downtown area right before the pandemic hit so one of my first outings after I'm vaccinated will be to wander downtown and see what all of our talented local artists have created.

  8. It's a beautiful mural and symbolic as well. We have a few murals in town but most of the time some smart butt vandalizes them so we don't have too many. Plus as well-to-do as my city is, they do not appreciate or support art which is sad.

  12. Loaves and fishes - it's a lovely mural. I have a few charities and non-profits that I regularly donate to and Houston Food Bank is one of them. I am very proud to be just a tiny part of the essential work that they do.

  14. That is a beautiful mural! I love walking through certain streets just to look at murals. There are many such beautiful ones in downtown Cincinnati so we make the opportunity when we go down there.
