Books I Was Excited to Read but Still Haven’t Gotten To

All of these are books I either bought or were given to me. I couldn't wait to read them...at the time...but now...

CLASSICS:

Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

The Glass Bead Game by Hermann Hesse

Why don't I want to read these classics now?

Too heavy.

SCIENCE FICTION:

Way Station by Clifford D. Simak

Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson

City by Clifford D. Simak

Why don't I want to read these scifi books now?

I bought them to read last November for Science Fiction Month.

But Science Fiction Month is over.

Maybe next November?

Let's just call this category...CURRENT EVENTS:

Democracy in Chains by Nancy McLean

The Origin of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt

Fascism by Madeleine Albright

Why don't I want to read these current events books now?

Whew. I'm not sure I can read about things at the same time I'm living them.

UPDATE: I did try Fascism, and it's a compelling read.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each Tuesday That Artsy Reader Girl assigns a topic and then post her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.

The Sunday Salon: Taking a Deep Breath

Welcome! I'm happy you joined us here at the Sunday Salon. What is the Sunday Salon? The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week plus it's a great way to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

A study in 2016 cited by the National Institute of Health (NIH) "...supports the possibility that deep breathing technique is able to induce an effective improvement in mood and stress both in terms of self-reported evaluations (MPS and POMS) and of objective parameters, such as heart rate and salivary cortisol levels."

I had many opportunities to practice the deep breathing technique last week.
