Texas Authors I've Met in Real Life

I have found great happiness in meeting authors and photographing them,

like some folks enjoy seeing birds and taking photos of them.

All of these authors at one time were Texans.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each Tuesday That Artsy Reader Girl assigns a topic and then post her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.

  1. Wow, you've met a lot of authors! I never met an author yet, and think I would be quite starstruck : )

  2. Ooh nice! Lots of new to me ones here! I did a road trip one summer to TX to meet a few authors. It was a mini multi author event and I knew I loved 3/4 or 4/5 and then two days before that event I saw another author who was in TX a few hours away. So it was one big long road trip but it was fun at least! Lol.

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. Wow! You've met them in real life that's such a great twist on this weeks TTT. You did really well as I know you said you found it difficult like me this week.

  4. How great that you've gotten to meet these Texas authors, Deb. I have not met any of them, but I've known about almost all of them. I have, however, met other Texas authors and enjoyed that a lot. And I've enjoyed very much meeting mystery authors at mystery book conferences. So fun to get to meet and chat with an author that you've genuinely loved their work.

  7. My first thought was that I never met a local author. But then I remembered meeting Elmore Leonard at a book store where he was signing books. But I think that’s it.

  8. That's a lot of authors! Most of the ones I've met I've only met because they were doing research in my library.

  9. Oh wow, that's amazing! I've met a few indie and self-published authors at this Readers & Writers Festival that's held in Bali every year—most are from Australia but some from the US too. I think I've only met one popular/mainstream author but I'd love to meet many more one day (with Katherine Center on that list too)! :)

  12. "Like some people enjoy seeing birds" - as an author, I find this incredibly endearing! To be in what I sincerely feel is the exalted company of birds is an honor for sure!

  15. I haven't met any of these authors, but I have read some of their books. I've been lucky to meet quite a few authors due to working in bookstores over the years. Some favorites are William Kent Krueger, Kent Haruf, Mary Doria Russell, Ted Kooser, Jill Ker Conway, Lorna Landvik, Ben Sherwood, Tosca Lee, and Kate Braestrup. I'm sure I've forgotten several! Oh, and my husband! :)

  16. How cool that you've met so many!! Isn't it interesting how multiple states "claim" an author? Sandra Cisneros is also claimed by Illinois and is on my list. [Susan Wittig Albert is claimed by both Texas (where she lives now) and Illinois, too. I've enjoyed some of her books.

  26. How wonderful that you have met so many authors from your home state. Deb. You know I had to find out what Kinky Friedman's real name was. No one would name their baby Kinky. I'm sure you know that is was Richard and he had quite the life.
