I never get to celebrate fall here along the Texas Gulf Coast. No pumpkins. No cool breezes. Apples? Nope. No pretty fall leaves. Sigh.
Ah, but I can always lose myself in a wonderful fall book.

Yes to The Secret history - any book set on a college or prep school actually has a pretty good fall feeling for me.
ReplyDeleteOoh nice picks! Mostly new to me ones but I did read The Enchanted Spellshop! The author was coming to my library so I thought why not? Plus I had read one of her YA thrillers so I decided to give it a shot. It was a cute softer read and was nice! I also read Dracula many moons ago! Ironically it was when there were hardly no other vampire books to read (at least in YA!)!

The Spell Shop looks intriguing. I cannot imagine fall without leaves and apples and frosty days.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, these books have a sort of fall wibe. I have read Tartt, the Brontës, Collins and Stoker. I will check out the others. I have not read anything by Bradbury (a shame) and har thinking about reading some of the classic sci-fi (Bradbury, Huxley, etc) soon. Babel is on my shelf already. I am also curious about Morgenstern, not having read anything by her.

ReplyDeleteIt's the same here as we are also influenced by the Gulf weather. Growing up there was an orchard and they made their own cider, had hay rides, and I loved going there.

ReplyDeleteGreat choices. It's similar here in Florida, no real Fall season. I do enjoy looking at all the covers though. I've been seeing The Pumpkin Spice Cafe and it looks really good.

ReplyDelete11/22/63 is my favorite King novel. It's largely historical fiction with a slight horror element that increases as the book wears on -- the horror coming from the idea that "History is Obdurant" and resists change, so the closer the main character gets to altering history, the more adversity he meets. The love story in it is beautiful.

The Night Circus definitely has a fall vibe; it's one of my favorite books. Maybe I'll revisit it this fall.
ReplyDeleteDracula and The Woman in White also give off fall vibes, though I haven't read either one yet. They're both on my "maybe I'll get to this someday" list. I need to read Babel; I started it, but set it aside and never got back to it. One of these days! I have read Jane Eyre, though I don't necessarily think of it as a fall book. I've read The Spellshop too, and I highly recommend it; it's light, cozy, and delightful. (More of a summery flavor to it, though.)
