What is the Sunday Salon?
The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.
I swam almost every day, learned to play Maggie May and Changes on guitar, went to the Galveston Art Walk, and ate lunch with friends at Landry's right on the water in Kemah this week. Even though it was in the 90s all week, I nevertheless made my first pot of soup of autumn, and I baked some Blue Cornbread Muffins.
What I Read Last Week:
Village School by Miss Read (fiction)
The Spy and the Traitor: The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War by Ben Mcintyre (nonfiction)
The Caretaker by Ron Rash (fiction)
What I'm Reading Now:
The Imagined Life by Andrew Porter (fiction)
10 Keys to Happier Living by Vanessa King (nonfiction)
What I Posted Last Week Here at Readerbuzz:

I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 Good Things from last week:
Good Thing #1:
My friend Karen contemplates
joining a band of pirates
during the Galveston Art Walk this week.
Good Thing #2:
Madison, the person who cuts both my hair
and my dad's hair, sent this photo
of her oldest customer (my dad, 98)
and her youngest customer (her baby girl, 5 months old).
Good Thing #3:
Spinybacked Orbweaver,
at my house
Great customers! what a neat photo.
ReplyDeleteI added The Caretaker and Imagined Life to my TBR list, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat photo is priceless! Your Dad continues to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd like The Caretaker. I admire your getting out and swimming every day, that's impressive. Also love the photo of your dad holding the little girl. The oldest and youngest, so cute.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of your Dad and that sweet baby girl! Thanks for sharing it! You did have a busy week, Deb.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover of The Imagined Life. Anything with a blue cover catches my eye.
ReplyDeleteWhat a week you've had - makes me tired just reading about it! And what a wonderful picture of your dad and that little girl. The orbweavers are out and about. They always seem to appear in my yard in the autumn.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading about your week! Learning to play songs on the guitar sounds like so much fun, and I'm impressed you braved the heat for a pot of soup and cornbread muffins. Your list of "3 Good Things" is such a lovely idea—it's nice to see all the different things you appreciated, especially that photo of your dad and his stylist's baby.

I really like spiders. There are so many of them, so many different colors.
ReplyDeleteGood thing #2 is so heartwarming! A picture of Madison's oldest and youngest customer together tells such a beautiful story, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe orb weaver is amazing. The customers are precious. It sounds like you had a great week.
ReplyDeleteWhen Maggie May came out I was spending the summer with my middle sister. She LOVED Rod Stewert and played him non stop when we were in the car, and we were in the car a lot.
ReplyDeleteI've always made soup and chili all year long because my mom did and I love both. Growing up it wasn't hot enough for air conditioning and now that it is I have a/c so it doesn't make it hotter. We love cornbread but I've never tried Blue Cornbread. I'll buy a few boxes and some beans this week.
After reading this post I bought copies of The Imagined Life by Andrew Porter, How to Be Happy: 10 Keys to Happier Living byVanessa King, and also Chakra Healing for Beginners: Unlock Energy Flow for Inner Peace and Empowerment by Ann Westwood. I'm living a very good and happy life but I've always enjoyed reading books like these.
I love your photos! Every time I see a photo of your dad I think "he looks amazing for his age." Tell him I want to know his secret. Your hair cutters daughter is adorable! I hope you have a great week!
You have encouraged me to make more soup and chili all year long. We love it, so why not?!
DeleteI'm back to joining in and glad to be here. Love the photo of your Dad with the little girl.
ReplyDeleteYou had a full and fulfilling week! I enjoy reading about all that you do. Have a great weekend! :-)
ReplyDeletethat is one cute spider!
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad you got to swim almost every day! Our channel pool is finally fixed, so I’m looking forward to exercising this week. I love the songs that you have learned how to play! You are definitely multitalented. Yes, fall is fabulous season to make soup! Village School sounds like a fabulous lighthearted read. The Spy and The Traitor sounds intriguing. I too, have wondered how double agents managed to keep their lies straight. Joining a group of pirates sounds fun! What a fabulous picture of your daddy and the little baby. What a cute idea Madison had my grandkids would love the picture of that strange insect! Happy reading to you.
ReplyDeleteThe Galvaston art walk sounds like fun! And I love the photo of your dad and the baby!
ReplyDeleteSwimming 🏊♀️ is always fun. I ❤️ love Maggie May by Rod Stewart.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great week! I love the picture of your dad and the baby. Adorable! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYou are one busy lady! I hope you have a fabulous week!
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful that you're swimming everyday! Such a wonderful way to stay fit! Spiders freak me out if they're in my house but it's a live and let live situation outside. That's an unusual looking one in your garden! Have a wonderful week, Deb!
ReplyDeleteGreat pic of your dad with the youngest client! You're reading some interesting books at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the picture of the Spiny- backed Orbweaver. A new species for me. Your father looks FANTASTIC! I hope that his good genes are flowing through you, too! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow, I am not a fan of spiders but that's a pretty cool-looking one!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've had a good week!
Love the photo of your dad and the baby -- what a thoughtful hairdresser to send that to you!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the orbweavers around our house, but I'm pretty sure I've never seen a spiny-backed one.
Soounds like a fun week. Loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to let us know if the 10 Keys to Happier Living actually work. And the Orbweaver is fascinating!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good week. I like the spider pic, even though spiders creep me out
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic picture of your dad!!
ReplyDeleteYou have had an incredibly fun week. Don't you wish they were all that way? Well done on the guitar and what kind of soup did you make? The muffins sound good with blue corn. How can you top it this week?
ReplyDeleteLol I love that group of pirates! We had a pirates party once, pre-Wyatt and it was a blast. Everyone had to dress up!
ReplyDeleteThat photo of your dad with the little customer is just so cute! What a great idea for the stylist to do! And the pirates photo! So funny.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have a great list of books too.
Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteHere is my Sunday Post.
Your dad looks amazing... you have good genes! Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteYour dad looks fantastic for 98! And that's an adorable photo. The Art Walk sounds (and looks) like a lot of fun. And good for you for taking up guitar! I need to get back to playing and singing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great picture of your Dad with the baby girl. Love it! Ben Mcintyre has written some good books so I agree with your choice there. I have not read that one but I was gripped by his book Spy Among Friends. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a full week in the best ways.
ReplyDeleteDeb, your father looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWhat an active week, I really need to get off my backside!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful week
I am so ready for fall as well. I've put up a few decorations, but haven't had a lot of time. Cute photo of your dad and the stylist's daughter. Thanks for sharing, Deb.

Interesting assortment of books. You are certainly keeping busy in your retirement. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI love the positivity of this post. Swimming is such a relaxing thing to do.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a fun and productive week! I've been curious about the Caretaker and am glad to see you liked it, Deb. It really does sound like an emotional read. I seem to gravitate towards those a lot when I'm not trying to keep things light. I'm also curious about The Spy and the Traitor.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the Spinybacked Orbweaver. My family thinks I'm crazy for my interest in spiders given how averse I am to most insects. LOL And what a great photo of your dad! I hope you are enjoying your week!
Sweet photo of your dad and Madison's daughter. Hooray for learning new songs! I love to hear my husband play his guitar.
ReplyDeleteGreat customers picture, and wow, what a cute spider!
