Hannah, the now–elderly narrator, recounts the love she has for the land and for her community. In the dark way of the world I had come to what would be my life’s place, though I could not yet know the life I would live in it.

Wendell Berry. Do you know his work? If you do, have you read his fiction or his nonfiction?
Wendell Berry is an author that has long been recommended to me. Fiction. Nonfiction. Poetry. Everything he has written has been recommended to me at one time or another. And it all sounds good.
I finally my first Wendell Berry book, a book of fiction, Jayber Crow, in 2024. I loved it. I loved the story. I loved the characters. I loved the philosophy interwoven into the story.
I wanted to read more of this author, but I always hesitate; I hate being disappointed by a second book after loving the first.
So I begin Hannah Coulter with trepidation. But also with anticipation of great delight...
The purpose of THE BOOK BLOGGER HOP is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, and befriend other bloggers. THE BOOK BLOGGER HOP is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.
Do you have any bookish habits or quirks you catch yourself doing again and again? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee-Addicted Writer)
I'm nothing except a quirky bookish person. I read five or six books at the same time. I have more library cards than credit cards (way more). I only like to shop for one thing: books. Please don't start talking to me about popular culture, this movie star or that pop singer, but I am always delighted to talk about even the most obscure books...
I could go on and on.

New author and I am intrigued.
ReplyDeleteOh nice! I'm not up with pop culture anymore either. You want to talk 90s and early 00s I can spout nostalgia over those but yes, I am largely bookish!

Have a GREAT day!

I don’t think I have read anything by. Berry, though I may have heard about his work.
ReplyDeleteThat’s impressive—I don’t know how you keep track of that many books at once! And having more library cards than credit cards… that’s a reader goal right there 😊
ReplyDeleteI shared a few of my own reading habits on my blog this week if you’d like to stop by.
Happy Reading!
An interesting sounding book. I used to be able to read up to 4 books at a time, but since having my second son I struggle even to remember the one I am reading.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

I have some of Wendell Berry's poetry books!
ReplyDeleteI honestly never thought of him as a novelist - I will be checking this out. (I love his poetry)
I'd love to read the book Hannah Coulter. Will look for that at the library or on sale. Older characters and their reflections appeal to me. As a matter of fact, once I ever get my post written, I have a website and article to share about books featuring older characters.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read that!
DeleteI've never read Wendell Barry but I've noticed a number of people post his poetry and it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteDeb, I have 3 library cards and use them all! Like you, my shopping habits definitely trend more toward books and book-buying or just scanning the library shelves. In fact, I'm headed to a 'Friends of the Library' book sale in about an hour. It's at the library where I volunteer weekly. Can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteI have a book of Berry's poems that I've had for several years and dip into from time to time. My favorite is the very well-known and well loved "The Peace of Wild Things." Reading it, or remembering it, always brings me calm and peace.
ReplyDeleteI know of Wendell Berry, but I've yet to try any of his works. For some reason, this one reminds me a bit of A Lantern in Her Hand (Bess Streeter Aldrich).
ReplyDeleteThe only bookish habits I can think of is that I take notes while reading for my review.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like this book. It is on my TBR. I've only read Berry's poetry so far. Now I can look forward to this one.
