The Sunday Salon: Home from Georgia

Welcome! I am delighted that you joined us here at the
Sunday Salon

What is the Sunday Salon?

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

We will be on our way home today from our trip this week to the Georgia mountains.

What I Read Last Week:

Enormous Wings by Laurie Frankel (Fiction)

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke (Fiction)

The Ride of Her Life: The True Story of a Woman, Her Horse, and Their Last-Chance Journey Across America by Elizabeth Letts (Nonfiction)

What I'm Reading Now:

The Book of Birds: A Field Guide to Wonder and Loss by Robert Macfarlane (Nonfiction)

Make Life Happier by Mark Williamson (Nonfiction)

South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation by Imani Perry (Nonfiction)

A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson (Nonfiction)

The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck (Fiction)

In a Summer Season by Elizabeth Taylor (Fiction)

I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 Good Things from last week:

Good Thing #1:
Almost everything we had for supper
was from our garden.

Good Thing #2:
I picked up my t-shirt for
the adult summer reading program.

Good Thing #3:
Flowers are everywhere.

Weekend linkup spots are listed below. Click on the picture to visit the site.

I hope you will join the linkup for Sunday Salon below.

  3. Food from the garden, flowers, and that super fun tee, are very good things! I’ll be interested in your opinion on The Good Earth.

  4. Happy reading, Deb. You have lots of good choices here. You have reminded me that it’s many years since I read “The Good Earth” and it’s past time to repeat the experience.

  5. I’m impressed that your garden is already so productive. Only the earliest things here: specifically, rhubarb!

  6. How wonderful that you are able to eat from your garden already. It will be a while yet for me. Have a great week!

  8. Wonderful to see the covers of the books you are reading.
Re-read “The Good Earth” last year. Such an author—P. Buck.
Like the idea to highlight 3 good things.

  9. Lovely flower pictures! Cute T-shirt for summer reading. The library where I volunteer is geared up for a busy, busy summer to come. I remember those! Hope you guys had a great trip to Georgia!

  10. I just finished YesterYear, what a head trip! I've not read the Bill Bryson you mentiioned but have enjoyed his books on England and Australia.

  11. This is quite an informative post: good books, good things, and good link parties. I keep a list of writing and photo challenges on my blog, AlwaysWrite.blog. Would you like yours listed as well? I like the way you have everything displayed visually. It looks very attractive and is easy to skim and enjoy.

  12. I hope you're having a nice drive home from the Georgia mountains! We drove home yesterday from the Florida beaches. Except for a few traffic jams on I-65, it was smooth sailing after a beautiful week.

  13. I love that t-shirt! Hope you had safe travels home.

  14. Happy travels! I'm in line at the library for Yesteryear -- sounds intriguing.

  15. Welcome home, I hope you had a good time. The grass does not grow under your feet, does it.

  16. I hope you enjoyed your trip. I love that almost everything you had for dinner came from your garden. I don't have a garden (I live in a condo and I couldn't physically maintain a garden anyway), but I often eat salads with organic ingredients I primarily buy from the farmer's market. It's the next best thing to growing my own food. Have a great week! :)

  17. I discovered "The Good Earth" one summer in my late teens and I read it and reread it. And read it again! In fact I couldn't tell you how many times I read it that summer but I loved it and have fond memories of it still. Much later in life - in fact just a couple of years ago - I read "A Walk in the Woods" and loved that, too. When I was in college at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga I spent some time in those Georgia mountains as well. I hope you enjoyed them.

    1. Yes, I loved these Georgia mountains. I didn't get around to A Walk in the Woods last week (I walked too much in the woods) but I hope to read it this week or next.

  27. The T-shirt is fun! You are getting a lot of reading done despite all your gallivanting:)

    Thanks for sharing your week

  28. I LOVE your T-shirt, Deb. And you're right - flowers are everywhere just now. It's such a riot of colour and scent and is so joyous!! Have a lovely week.

  29. The salad/meal from your garden looks absolutely delicious! I read Bill Bryson's Into the Woods years ago and remember really enjoying it.

  30. I think it's wonderful that your dinner was full of what you grew in the garden! My goal! Or at least I hope to get some tomatoes! I've been slowly repotting all my plants and getting the raised beds ready. If it ever stops raining here I'll be able to do some real planting! BTW, what do you think of Natalie in Yesteryear? I really hated her for the longest time... Have a great week!

  31. How was you reread of The Good Earth. Was it as good as you remembered? Your climate is so different from ours. Jealous of fresh tomatoes and cucumbers!

  33. I wonder what you thought of Yesteryear. I've seen mixed reviews. A trip to the Georgian Mountains sounds wonderful and dinner from your garden looks delicious!

  35. I would love to have a garden with fresh veggies. I think the only thing we could eat from ours is a banana slug! Lol! Hope you had an enjoyable getaway with lots of good exploring/walks/hikes!

  39. So good to be eating from the garden. My garden is really finished but I am still getting a few tomatoes by bringing them in as they show they are pinking up and putting them in the window to ripen up. Love the t shirt.

  40. What a delicious meal from your garden! I tried to get through Yesteryear but it wasn't for me. Sometimes a book will just put me in a negative headspace and that one did that for me. But I can definitely appreciate how others found it humorous and a good book for discourse.

    Have a great week, Deb!

  41. Love that your garden is already giving you a nice salad to eat -- Wow, nice. We finished Yesteryear too ... what a doozy of a read. I'm tempted by the Frankel and Letts books as well. Cheers.
