The Sunday Salon: 18 Years of Blogging

We are very glad that you joined us here at the
Sunday Salon. Welcome!

What is the Sunday Salon?

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

Tropical Storm Arthur passed through this week. We got four inches of rain in one day, but it drained off quickly and we did not suffer any damage.

I read almost nothing until I got home from taking care of chickens, but days of rain have allowed me to catch up on my reading this week. I'm happy to have read all nine of the Little House books at last, and I loved the new Elizabeth Strout book.

What I Read Last Week:

These Happy Golden Years by Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House #8)
The First Four Years by Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House #9)
Annie Knows Everything by Rachel Wood (Fiction)
The Things We Never Say by Elizabeth Strout (Fiction)
Make Life Happier by Mark Williamson (Nonfiction)
Lost Horizon by James Hilton (Classic)
Autumn Journal by Louis MacNeice (Poetry)
The Solitary Summer by Elizabeth von Arnim (Classic Club Spin)

What I'm Reading Now:

Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel by Carl Safina (Nonfiction)
My Friends by Fredrik Backman (Book Club; Fiction)

What I Posted Last Week Here at Readerbuzz:

I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 Good Things from last week:

Good Thing #1:

It's my 18th blogoversary!

Good Thing #2:

We are sharing alligators
with kids
for the summer reading program
at the library.

Good Thing #3:

Despite the rain, I was able to enjoy
Aqua Zumba and Aqua Aerobics
at the swimming pool a few times this week.

Weekend linkup spots are listed below. Click on the picture to visit the site.

  1. Many congrats on 18 years of blogging! Seeing an alligator when it’s tiny would be so interesting. I’d enjoy that. Glad you got to catch up on your reading, and that the storm didn’t do any damage.

  2. That’s a great run of blogging!

When my daughter was young we read her all the Little House books and loved them together. . In the last few years we have ben disillusioned by some of the revelations about the authors, especially about Rose Wilder Lane, the daughter who probably did a lot of editing (she was an extreme right-wing activist verging on Fascism)). But the charm is real.
Have a great week and thanks for hosting…. best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com

  4. Good to see you helping out at the children’s summer camp. I just volunteered for three sessions at a local camp - two in July and one in August. We’ll finalize the details after I get back home.

  23. I would’ve loved to see alligators as a kid. This is a great resource as it is. I’ve only seen them in Florida. I think it’s alligators or crocodiles I get confused about which climate that can live in.

Did you know Netflix are releasing a brand new adaption of The Little House on the Prairie next month? Apparently it’s supposed to be closer the books.

Wishing you a wonderful week and happy reading!

  27. Congratulations on 18 years of blogging! We were supposed to go to the pool this week, but it was only 74 and a sustained wind of 20 mph, with gusts up to 50, it was just too cool. Glad you all had no damage from Arthur. Have a great week!

  28. Pool time and baby alligators! How fun and hopefully not together. Hahahaha.

I had to think of you when a Tiktok popped up of a girl who had somehow managed to lock herself IN the chicken coop. She was chicken-sitting, same as you, but I think she said she is scared of the chickens. I don't know how she finally got out. Algorhythm hasn't brought me back for the update yet.

    Happy 18th Bloggoversary!

  29. Happy blogging anniversary! Such an accomplishment. Read your review of the last two of Wilder's books. The last one remained unedited, which is why its tone is different than the earlier books. It was found in her daughter's things after Rose passed away. Her heir published the original manuscript a few years after Rose's death.

  36. Here's to many more years of blogging, Deb! I think you were one of the first bloggers that I starting following back in the day. It's pretty remarkable to me that we are both still at it! I have no desire to stop, at this point!

  37. Happy 18th blogoversary! I hope your French July celebration doesn't include the weather they are having now. Unreal.

  38. Happy blogoversary! I'm a little blase about alligators since we see them around my in-laws' house in south Florida, but I don't think I'm brave enough to handle them, even the babies. Kudos to you! The kids must have fun at your programs!
