What is the Sunday Salon?
The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.
What I Read Last Week:
The Book of Birds: A Field Guide to Wonder and Loss by Robert Macfarlane (Nonfiction)
The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck (Fiction)
What I'm Reading Now:
Make Life Happier by Mark Williamson (Nonfiction)
The Solitary Summer by Elizabeth von Arnim (Fiction)
I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 Good Things from last week:
Good Thing #1:
A Carolina Wren
is nesting in a hanging basket
on our front porch.
Photo from iNaturalist.
Good Thing #2:
I did not photograph any
new-to-me birds in East Texas,
but at dawn, when I awoke each morning,
I heard this one, a Chuck-Will's Widow:

Good Thing #3:
At my age, I bruise easily.
I got this bruise from trying to
quickly close a chicken pen.
It's a reminder to me
of my purpose here on Earth.

Watching a bird’s nest near home is great; We had nesting robin in a tree next to our porch this spring and it was delightful. We think the little ones successfully fledged, at least we hope so.
ReplyDeleteThat bruise looks terrible— I hope it clears up quickly!
Have a good weekend… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Whew! That is a lot of critters in addition to the chickens you spoke about last week. And of all the animals that I thought might have caused a bruise, I wouldn’t have guessed the chickens. I don’t think I could draw a heart that perfect!
ReplyDeleteAfter taking care of three dogs, five ducks, hundreds of chickens, and a horse, do you get a vacation? I need one just thinking about how busy that must keep you.
ReplyDeleteYou have a very good reason to be exhausted! Your heart- shaped bruise is lovely - although it must also be uncomfortable. Have a good restful week Deb.
ReplyDeleteOoooo, I wish I had taken a photo of my heart bruise. I was showing it to Doug last week...sisters, lol. I too bruise very easily and they sent me to a cancer doc again, a hemotologist, just to be sure. Turns out I have very low platelet counts and that's why I brusie easier now.
ReplyDeleteYou must indeed be exhausted! You deserve some good books and rest!
I'm sorry you hurt your arm but I have to say that is the coolest bruise I've ever seen. And yet another bird I've never heard of!
ReplyDeleteI'm exhausted just reading about all that! That is a lot of creatures to take care of! The Chuck-Will's Widow is such an interesting looking bird. I need to research them a bit. I'm sorry about the bruise but how amazing that it formed in that shape. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI had thought that taking care of all the animals would be a big job. Glad that you were able to help out, but also glad you are home to rest. Yes, those bruises - easy to do, aren't they? That one is indeed curious. You take care of yourself, Deb, and enjoy a nice restful weekend!
ReplyDeleteOuchie. That bruise looks awful and painful. We were just talking last night about how exhausting it is to babysit grandchildren but you had to babysit grandpets. that sounds like a lot of work!
ReplyDeleteI bruise easily now too. Love the little birds nest.
ReplyDeleteI hope your bruise heals soon and you aren't too uncomfortable in the meantime. Since the weather here has turned warmer, our regular birdies don't visit as much. Bud and Blossom Finch stopped by one day last week, but that was the first time in a while. I also don't hear the birds as much at night and in the early mornings like I did earlier in the spring. I hope you have a relaxing weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteI am sure all that work included some fun too. Sorry about the bruise. Rest up. I know you probably have another busy week ahead.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a chance to relax and that your bruise heals.
ReplyDeleteI find that too with the bruising. I never used to bruise so easily! At least yours is heart-shaped :)

Phew! That is a lot of work!!!! My dad bruises super easily too like that. I hope you gets some good rest and relaxation this weekend!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of animals to take care of! No wonder you're tired. What an unusual bruise to get, but kind of neat, too. Hope you get some rest and have a nice week, Deb!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a week! I hope you have some quiet time to read this week :) I love the reframe of how to think about bruises.
ReplyDeleteWow! You had a week for sure! I read The Good Earth many years ago and still think about it with grattitude whenever I'm cutting veggies. I seem to remember with gratitude a line where the protagonist laments desires a certain food that, in better times, he would have thrown away. We are so blessed.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Your bruise looks beautiful and painful at the same time...sort of like love. Take good care!
Rod bruises very easily, too. He's on a blood thinner, but the marks very rarely ever bleed, thankfully. He and my mom compare their red marks/bruises every morning over breakfast. Lol! I hope you get to relax soon. Looking forward to hearing how you like The Solitary Summer.
ReplyDeleteI also meant to say that I enjoyed listening to the Chuck-Will's Widow. I've not heard of that bird before. I get to listen to a Spotted Towhee every morning, beginning around 4am!
ReplyDeleteAt least you were safe from the rooster this time!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a well deserved week of relaxation.
Thanks for sharing your week
wow, only you can have a bruise in the shape of a heart!
ReplyDeleteI have heard its cousin the whip-poor-will. I'll never forget the first time, as we were really wondering what we were hearing.

Your bruise is a heart! Somehow that makes it a bit better (right?)
ReplyDeleteI hope you are going to get a week of rest now!
