The Sunday Salon: Exit Party, Theo of Golden, and The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances

We are happy you are here at the
Sunday Salon. Welcome!

What is the Sunday Salon? The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

We got a tiny bit of a cool front this week, and the temps dipped down into the low 70s F at night. This is a beautiful time to live along the Gulf Coast of Texas.

I had a wonderful, busy week, with butterfly monitoring, swimming, my ukulele lesson, Empty Bowls, a library league meeting, book club, lunch with a friend, a butterfly walk with my naturalist group, and a family reunion.

The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances by Glenn Dixon

What I Read Last Week:

The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances by Glenn Dixon (Science Fiction)

Theo of Golden by Allen Levi (Book Club)

Exit Party by Emily St. John Mandel (Science Fiction)

Quartet in Autumn by Barbara Pym | Goodreads

What I'm Reading Now:

Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures by Merlin Sheldrake (Nonfiction)

The Librarians by Sherry Thomas (Mystery)

Quartet in Autumn by Barbara Pam

I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 Good Things from last week:

Wicked Pt 1: The Original Motion Picture Score by covercollector on ...Wicked: Part 2

Good Thing #1:

I talked my husband into spending two nights with
Wicked, Part One and Part Two, this week,
with pizza.

Good Thing #2:

Look at these beautiful, locally crafted bowls
we took home from the Empty Bowls fundraiser.

Good Thing #3:

A lovely little Gray Hairstreak
we saw on our butterfly walk.

  1. I’m glad to hear that you are now getting cooler weather. I can’t imagine enduring the summers you have there. I hope this signals you will be spending more time in nature.

  2. Glad you are getting into some cooler temps. We are too, here along the Adriatic. My husband and I both enjoyed Wicked Parts 1 & 2. I hope you do as well. Apologies for the double-post. The first entry is actually last week’s entry. I tried to figure out how to remove it with no luck. Apologies!

  3. Sounds like you had a good week! It's getting autumnal temperature-wise here, which makes me happy.

How are you finding Entangled Life? I seem to remember mostly liking it!

    1. I liked Entangled Life a lot, though I must admit that a great deal of it felt like it was over my head.

  4. Love those bowls. A friend and I were just talking about buying dishes 2 at a time that you like, instead of matched sets.

  5. I think we have a bowl that was involved with empty bowls — a friend (now deceased) was part of that endeavor.which is an impressive way to call attention to the problem.

  6. "The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances ": This title makes me smile, and I'm curious what the book is about. I have less than 50 pages left to read in "My Next Breath." I'm also reading "Kitchen Table Tarot."

Happy Saturday. Thanks for hosting Sunday Salon!

  8. Don't you just love Empty Bowls? It's just the bet idea! The title of the appliance book intrigues me!

  9. The weather has been rather pleasant this week, hasn't it? And it looks like things will continue in that vein and possibly get even better over the rest of the month. I do love this time of year!

  10. Gorgeous bowls! Looking forward to Nonfiction November. Do you have a copy of the widget/banner without "coming soon" across it? I'm getting ready to draft my blog post.

    1. I stumbled through a song when I visited my sister, and my friend came by last week and we (tried to!) play ukuleles together. I need more practice, but I enjoy playing so much.

  19. Sounds like a great week. I'll be curious to hear what you think of Quartet in Autumn...the vibe feels different from Pym's other novels. What a beautiful butterfly!

  20. Nice to have the lower temps! That low is our high today! Are you being affected by Hurricane Isaias? That's a beautiful picture with the butterfly!

  21. I love your three things from this week. The bowls you made are super cute, too. One of my cousin's is a potter. I passed along the Empty Bowls info to her, thinking maybe they can do one where she does pottery (if they don't already). I haven't seen or read any Wicked yet. Halloween season seems like a good time to change that. Have a great week!

  23. What a lovely week indeed! I love your two new bowls (even better for the trade) and cannot wait to read Exit Party (just have to get through a few others first)! I have not watched the Wicked movies but loved the book! I hope the week ahead is a wonderful one!

  24. You have been mighty busy, Deb. Looks like a lot of nice adventures. Love the bowls. Dixon's book caught my eye, though I am not much of a sci-fi fan. Hope you have a great week.
