Top Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me

Top Ten Books

I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me

I'm a very eclectic reader.
So I'd be surprised if you have any of these on your list.
(Though if you do, let me know.
I'm always interested in making the acquaintance of quirky readers like myself.)

Almost Amish by Nancy Sleeth
I like simple.

Building Stories
Here's a little about it from a Booklist review:
"Here he (the author) does away with the book format—a thing between two covers that has a story that begins and ends—entirely in favor of a huge box containing 14 differently sized, formatted, and bound pieces: books, pamphlets, broadsheets, scraps, and even a unfoldable board that would be at home in a Monopoly box."
Doesn't that sound fun?

Little Paris Kitchen
Anything Paris.

How Children Succeed by Paul Tough
Were our grandparents right? What really matters is
not our smarts but our character?

Europe on 5 Wrong Turns a Day
Love travel narratives.

A Family in Paris
Paris. Love Paris books.

The Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm
Two dozen of the best stories plus
the best illustrations from the 1850s to the 1950s.

Crust and Crumb
Master formulas.
For serious bread bakers.
I'm a serious bread baker.

Language for a New Century
Poetry. From the Middle East, Asia and "beyond".

Photo Op: 52 Inspirational Projects for the Adventurous Image-Maker
I checked this out from the library and loved all the photography projects.
Now I want a copy of my own.

Pssst!  Hey, Santa!  Check Amazon for my full wish list!

How about you? What are you hoping Santa will bring?

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

I Read 100 Books in Eight Weeks

It's been quiet around Readerbuzz lately. I've been busy. Reading. Reading one hundred books.

I love being a Cybils Award judge. This is my fifth year. I'm a children's nonfiction picture book judge. An even one hundred books were nominated for the children's nonfiction picture book Cybils Award. I've been busy searching for the nominees at the library. As I've found them, I've been reading them.

Many of these are recent publications, so not all of these books can be found yet in libraries. That makes the finding and reading and reviewing difficult. Fortunately publishers come to the rescue and send review copies.

So far I've found 42 at the library and I've received 51 from publishers. I have seven left to go.

Here's what my stack looks like:

I've read some fabulous books this year, books about baby dolphins and the many colors of monkeys, silk and the construction of the White House, bats and Chinese voyager Zheng He, Texas wildflower legends and the real creator of Batman, rocks and dancer Josephine Baker. Everything from symmetry to poop, and everything in between.

Now I just need to find those last seven books and get busy reviewing. Wish me luck.

The Sunday Salon is open to anyone who'd like to discuss books of a Sunday (or, frankly, any other day of the week). We've actually been around for some years -- see http://dhamel.typepad.com/sundaysalon/ -- but managing the group via that site became a problem because of its size and we had to limit membership to a little over 500 members. I'm now throwing the doors open to anyone who'd like to participate. Discuss what you're reading here, or link to relevant blog posts, or comment on one another's posts. Enjoy.

Thank you, publishers.)

What I'm Reading Now

The 100 Cybils nonfiction picture book nominees, of course!

And Prisoner of Zenda...

What are you reading today?!

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between!  This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I love being a part of this and I hope you do too! As part of this weekly meme Book Journey loves to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme. Book Journey offers a weekly contest for those who visit 10 or more of the Monday Meme participants and leave a comment telling BJ how many you visited.
