Today's Featured Book:
The Love Haters
by Katherine Center
Genre: Light Romatic Fiction
Published: May 20, 2025
Page Count: 320 pages
Summary:
Katie Vaughn has been burned by love in the past―now she may be lighting her career on fire. She has two choices: wait to get laid off from her job as a video producer or, at her coworker Cole’s request, take a career-making gig profiling Tom “Hutch” Hutcheson, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer in Key West. The catch? Katie’s not exactly qualified. She can’t swim―but pretends that she can.
Plus, Cole and Hutch are brothers. And they don’t get along. Next stop: paradise! But paradise is messier than it seems. As Katie gets entangled with Hutch (the most scientifically good-looking man she has ever seen . . . but maybe a bit of a love hater), along with his colorful aunt Rue and his rescue Great Dane, she gets trapped in a lie. Or two.
Swim lessons, helicopter flights, conga lines, drinking contests, hurricanes, and stolen kisses ensue―along with chances to tell the truth, to face old fears, and to be truly brave at last.
It was quitting time on a Friday, but Cole Hutcheson didn't care.
Nobody cared to much right then, in fact. Because we were all about to get laid off.
THE FRIDAY 56 is hosted by Anne of Head Full of Books. To play, open a book and turn to page 56 (or 56% on your e-reader). Find a sentence or two and post them, along with the book title and author. Then link up on Head Full of Books and visit others in the linky.
There wasn't time to move or even duck. It happened so fast, we all just stared. The thing hurled itself toward me---and the next thing I knew, we were both skidding across the wooden deck and sliding to a stop in a heap.
I'm a sensible person. Usually.
I'm not one to fawn over authors. Generally.
But the truth is that I have loved reading Katherine Center's books since I met her in person at a library conference and read her first book in 2007.
Why? She is a native Houstonian. Her books generally feature Texas settings and/or Texans as characters. She's a regular person. Her books are a fun romp. And she genuinely seems like she enjoys writing books and meeting the people who read her books.
The purpose of THE BOOK BLOGGER HOP is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, and befriend other bloggers. THE BOOK BLOGGER HOP is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.
May 30th - June 5th - Have you ever wondered why a passionate book blogger might suddenly stop posting or delete their blog without notice? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
Yes, the first time that happened to me I learned the book blogger had passed away. It was one of my favorite bloggers, one of the first bloggers I followed. She was nicknamed Dewey, and the twice-annual 24-hour readathon was named after her.
Two blogs I liked very much have both stopped posting. I am so disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad. I think I can recall one blogger who passed away but it was early on in my blogging life so I didn't get to know them for very long. Mostly the bloggers I used to know just kind of retired. Either due to burnout or life changes. I have a few friends still from the beginning that are somewhat around, so that's nice. But the great majority of the bloggers I knew have retired so to speak.
ReplyDeleteHere's my BBH
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
When I look back at comments on my older posts (maybe 10 years ago) I see lots of bloggers who were very active and interactive, and now don’t post. If I click on the link, often their blog still exists with the last post several years ago, but no explanation of why they stopped posting. I don’t think they all died, just ran out of ideas, maybe. It’s especially strange for a book blogger since there are always more books to read.
ReplyDeletebest… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
For some who quit blogging I think it's burnout. I stopped for a while on the food blog because of some snarky comments and it just gets old. Do you remember "Louise" who hosted a blog about food celebrations? She died and that was so sad. Her real name was Denise and we emailed back and forth a few times and was a very positive person.
ReplyDeleteOthers who just disappear may have had life event changes and the longer you are away from the keyboard, the less appeal there is to return. Just my 2 cents.
I remember Louise at “months of edible celebrations” — her posts were very wonderfully researched, using her extensive collection of food memorabilia. I found it tragic that she had converted from Blogger to a paid service, so when she was no longer able to write (and pay) her entire blog was destroyed. It would have continued to be a resource for others.
DeleteI have had several blogging friends who no longer update their blogs. They are definitely missed. I did have one who passed away a while ago - Melody. I miss her a lot.
ReplyDeleteI also really like Katherine Center and have read several of her books. I knew she was from Texas and she is actually doing an event here on Sunday evening. Unfortunately, I can't go - sigh. How fun that you got to meet her. I will say that authors that I've met at mystery book conferences have all been friendly and fun to chat with.
I have told Rick he will have to post if something happens to me and I can't. I hope he remembers. I appreciate it when someone who just stops posts to say so. We are more of a community than we sometimes realize and worry about our fellow bloggies!
ReplyDeleteOh, there are so many bloggers that have drifted away, and I miss each and every one. Like Mae, I've noticed a lot of names in the comments of some of my very early posts who have since left the blogosphere. I made a list at one point and there have to be at least a dozen or so. I think the only one who has passed away is Tammy from Nashville. That was such sad news. :(
ReplyDeleteThis book didn't seem like one you'd usually select so I was relieved to read why you are -- a fan of the author. Good enough. Sounds fun. What did skid toward them on the deck?
ReplyDeleteLol!
DeleteI have this book on my wish list. I've been wanting to read the author. This sounds good.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you lost your book blogger friend.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few bloggers that I have wondered about.
ReplyDeleteLots of people who posted in the past decided to stop, a couple of them died, most just stepped away. It's hard, it is losing friends.
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds like it's a lot of fun.

Naming a reading challenge after friend is a beautiful idea for a memorial.

It is always sad when people I've followed/read for a long time stop posting suddenly. There can be so many reasons for it and sometimes we never know. I recently went back through old posts on a few of my farm blogs and clicked through comments to see who is still active and who isn't. The vast majority of bloggers are simply gone and a handful have so many ads on their pages now that I find it too distracting to read what they're writing. The remaining few bloggers are still around and still just writing what they're excited about. I do sometimes miss the good ol' days of blogging.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, thank you for being so consistent in participating in blog hops and sharing new blogs with us! I'm off to hop around now! Hope you have a great weekend!
There are several bloggers I followed who just stopped for some reason. Burn out? I am making my posts simpler and easier for that reason; don't want to stop suddenly.
ReplyDeleteI have this one on my TBR and Katherine Center is on my list of must read authors for this year. I'm glad to see how much you enjoy her books. She sounds delightful in all the interviews I've read. There are a few bloggers who have stopped blogging. Luckily most have just gotten burnt out or had some situation changes but I know several have passed.
ReplyDeleteOh man, that's so sad about the blogger you knew. I hope you have a good week. - Katie
