A very busy week. Big birthday celebration for one of my Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series friends who turned 90. My husband, the gemcutter, cut his 2,500th gemstone. I went to my first Mah Jongg group. And I got together for lunch with a friend I used to teach with forty years ago. The 20 Books of Summer and the Big Books of Summer begin.

ReplyDeleteThat's a HUGE week! Love the gorgeous gemstone. 2,500 -- I'm amazed. Post Vera I'd go for Cleeves' "Shetland" series (they are multi-part, Britbox), Dalgliesh (Acorn) "McDonald and Dodds" (Britbox)... well, I could go on and on. If you don't regularly watch "Call the Midwife" or "All Creatures," those both have wonderful writng!

ReplyDeleteWe watching Jack Irish for a second time as most of our DVDs have been packed away. If you ever try that series it starts with Set 1 and Set 2 then picks up with seasons 1, 2 and 3. That's important to know because previously we had watched the Sets and I grabbed season 3 afterwards, everyone had aged so much and we felt we had missed something. Yeah....I had to request season1 and return 3.
We also liked Firefly, a police drama 19-2 starring Jared Keeso and some Acorn productions on British shows.
Busy week indeed! "Vera" is one of my all-time favorite series. I could watch it over and over again - and have.
ReplyDeleteRe TV series, I'm still hooked on Kdramas on Netflix. I just finished a tear jerker, The Good, Bad Mother.
ReplyDeleteLovely gemstone! Your first mah jongg group - did you enjoy it? There is one that meets in our neighborhood, but the timing doesn't work for me. Plus then I'd have to learn how to play it - ha! I loved the Vera series. Have watched it more than once. I'd second the 'Shetland' series - same writer of the books - Ann Cleeves. We've watched a lot of British crime shows. What about Grantchester? I like that one.
ReplyDeleteOooh, you're playing Mah Jong! I've been getting together with my three besties for six years to play MJ every Friday. We play the Chinese version since it's how I learned when I was a pre-teen back in the late 60s. My daughter plays the American version and taught me how to play when she was here a few months ago. My friends and I have played that version a few times and it's much more difficult! We'll keep playing our regular Chinese hands, but will play the American version once a month just to stretch our brains a bit! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that Shetland and McDonald & Dodds are both worth watching now that you've finished Vera (which we loved). Ludwig, Maigret, and The Diplomat are also some of our recent favorites.
Oh my goodness, that's a lot of genstones that he's cut.

ReplyDeleteWhat gemstone is that little beauty? The only Mah Jongg I've ever played was on my computer and the tiles were Campbell's Soup Cans! I've never played the actual game in real life.

ReplyDeleteThat is amazing about the gemstone! Wow! I've been watching Ludwig with David Mitchell. Nowhere near as gritty as Vera but still really good so far. Up to episode 3. It's more "cozy" but still well acted.

ReplyDeleteThe last series I watched are Four Seasons and Forever on Netflix - I finished all of Four Seasons and most of Forever. Never heard of Vera; will have to check it out.

Oh my gosh! Lots of milestone celebrations! Looks like you’re reading some great books and I added a couple to my TBR. Postwar sounds interesting, but is definitely a big book. Happy Reading.
