What is the Sunday Salon?
The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.
I'm off in New York City with my friend, Rae, if all has gone well. Rae has always wanted to visit NYC, her favorite city in the world, but somehow things have never worked out until now. We are doing the two things Rae has on her NY bucket list: (1) go to the Strand Bookstore and (2) see a Broadway play. In addition, we are doing one thing I've always wanted to do: (1) stay at the Library Hotel. Wish us luck!

What I Read Last Week:
How to Listen by Thich Nhat Hanh
What I'm Reading Now:
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (Classics Club)
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry (Reread)
Spying on the South: An Odyssey Across the American Divide by Tony Horwitz (Nonfiction)
What I Posted Last Week Here at Readerbuzz:
I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 (recent) Good Things:
Good Thing #1:
Birders at Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary
Good Thing #2:
Ah, a mystery I might enjoy...
setting is near me
with characters that are birders.
Good Thing #3:
Enjoying a slice of pie
at House of Pies
with a friend,
along with some House of Pies wisdom.
I definitely want to read the High Island book!

That sounds like an excellent trip you have planned! Hope all's gone to plan and it's as much fun as you hoped!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great trip! I had NYC on my list but alas your president has made me take it off the list for now.
ReplyDeleteI love all your good things and NYC sounds great! You know we want a full report when you return. Meanwhile, have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting trip! Nice that you and your friend are both scratching items off your bucket list. Spying on the South sounds interesting. I’ll be interested to read your review.

ReplyDeleteOh, to be in NY now that summer's there. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great trip, Deb!!
ReplyDeleteI went to the Strand Bookstore in '15, it's amazing. I also saw the Broadway play Misery with Bruce Willis and Laurie Metcalf. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI've been to New York City three times, but have never visited The Strand! Lucky you. I hope your trip is wonderful. Also, my husband would love to live near House of Pies. :)
ReplyDeleteHigh Island Blues does sound perfect for you -- hope you like it. Have a great time in NYC. The Library Hotel is on my list, too.
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic time in NYC! Such a fun city; what show are you going to see?
ReplyDeleteWe saw The Lion King. It wowed me.

ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Your trip to New York sounds like so much fun! Now I have to check out that Ann Cleeves mystery.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
NYC is one of my favourite cities too! I lived there for a year as an au pair and I still miss it. It sounds like you have an interesting trip planned! Which broadway show are you going to see? I only ever saw one while I was there, Chicago, and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteWe saw The Lion King. I can't stop talking about it.
DeleteExcited to hear which Broadway show you see and how much you enjoy it! My daughter did a camp in NYC last summer and loved it. I'm sure she would never pass up a chance to return.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear more about your trip! Tell all!
ReplyDeleteHave so much fun in New York! Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time in New York! I love NYC - so many things to do. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteOh, Deb, what a lovely trip you have planned. I always wanted to go to NY. I hope you have a fantastic time 🥰
ReplyDeleteHow nice it is to get away! And, Lonesome Dove is the quintessential reread, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great time.
ReplyDeleteWhich play did you see? I'd love to stay in the Library Hotel. It was too expensive when we went, decade and a half ago now! That spying on the south sounds intriguing. #Sundaysalon
ReplyDeleteThe hotel was wildly expensive, but we got the tiniest room and shared the costs.
DeleteStaying at the Library Hotel sounds wonderful! I hope you and your friend are having a terrific time.
ReplyDeleteNYC is top of my bucket list so I am very excited to hear about you and your friend's trip! I definitely want to visit the Strand and stay at the Library Hotel! Enjoy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to visit New York! I can hardly wait to hear about your trip! Hanh’s book sounds like one to check out. Love the poem version on your Goodreads! I just borrowed his How to Sit and am looking forward to reading the rest. How to Listen – I sure hope a ton of people read this one. Imagine? What a lovely photograph! That building needs a garden….sigh…if it’s possible. Love the Live in the Moment photo. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in NYC. What show will you see? I could go to them all.
ReplyDeleteMy friend picked the show she wanted to see. She chose well.
DeleteWhoops. My comment flew away. Have a fun trip to NYC. See lots of shows. Enjoy all the moments.
ReplyDeleteYour trip sounds absolutely fantastic! Wishing you an amazing time and hoping everything goes smoothly—may it be just as exciting and enjoyable as you envisioned! ✨
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your trip to NYC. As a local, I recommend Strand--great books and programming. You might also want to visit Housing Works Bookstore at 126 Crosby Street (about a mile south of Strand). They have great current used books and a cafe.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun trip. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a lovely trip to the city!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a wonderful time in New York!
ReplyDeleteI hope your NY visit goes well, it sounds really interesting. Perfect for reading enthusiasts.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in New York City, and am ashamed to admit that I have never, once, been to the Strand bookstore. I lived in one of the other boroughs and was fortunate enough to have a bookstore (one we would call an indie bookstore nowadays) in walking distance and several others I could easily get to by mass transit. Those were the days.
ReplyDeleteHope you have fun in New York, Deb. We haven't been since December 2019, but I am sure we will return one day. May you visit all the fun places you wish. Enjoy your reading, too!

I've always wanted to stay at the Library Hotel in NYC, too! Hope you enjoy your visit. I read Lonesome Dove for Big Book Summer last year, and it ended up being my #1 book of the year! Hope you're enjoying it.
