The Sunday Salon: Runnin' and Gunnin'

Welcome! I am happy you joined us here at the
Sunday Salon

What is the Sunday Salon?

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

Busy week.

Sewing Retreat. Spent the night with my son and his family after the retreat. Our grown granddaughter came to visit after I got home. Swam. Writing class in Galveston. Swam again. Met my sister and her husband in Houston for dinner. Took a field trip with friends to the new bookstore in Galveston. Went to Brenham to the Blue Bell Creamery with a group from the senior center. Attended a lecture in Galveston on The World's Most Difficult Poem. Celebrated our great-nephew's first birthday.

Whew.

What I Read Last Week:

The Swish of the Curtain by Pamela Brown (1001 Children's Book; Classics Club Spin)

What I'm Reading Now:

Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont by Elizabeth Taylor

The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot

I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 Good Things from last week:

Good Thing #1:

The quilt I made
at the Sewing Retreat.

Good Thing #2:

A new-to-me butterfly
I saw in East Texas:
Red-spotted Admiral

Good Thing #3:

At the Then and Now Bookstore
in Galveston

  1. The quilt looks beautiful. The Waste Land is an interesting choice of reading. I remember reading it in high school. It still seems edgy even though it’s something like 100 years old. I love the idea of all t hose butterlies!
Thanks for hosting the Sunday Salon… mae at maefood.blogspot.com

  3. That butterfly looks like a black Swallowtail. I've seen one this summer in the backyard.

    1. I thought at first it was a Spicebush Swallowtail. Apparently this species of Admiral mimics the swallowtail in its appearance.

    2. The butterfly I saw in our backyard has the fancy tail of a swallowtail. Your Admiral's tail is not so detailed.

  6. Sounds like a full and tasty week. Beautiful quilt! About the world's most difficult poem (still!): I performed The Waste Land a few years ago on the centennial of its publication, at the Pawling Library in NY, with theater notable Roger Hendricks Simon. I had to study every reference and definition and it was one of the most glorious experiences of my life.

  9. We've had Admiral butterflies in our yard in past years, but I haven't seen any this year. Sadly, I've seen very few butterflies in the yard this year. Love the quilt. Kudos to you!

  23. Your quilt is beautiful - you must be feeling very proud! And an heirloom to pass down the family:). The butterfly is exquisite and how lovely to see a pic of Rae:)). Kudos to you for tackling The Wasteland. I've read extracts - but it's always felt darker and bleaker than I want to go... Have a great week, Deb.
