The Sunday Salon: A Sewing Retreat

Welcome! I am happy you joined us at the
Sunday Salon

What is the Sunday Salon?

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week, and it's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

My Aunt Karen

I'm in East Texas, doing a Sewing Retreat with my aunt and my sister-in-law. My aunt is going to teach us how to quilt-as-you-go.

I am having a fantastic time.

What I Read Last Week:

Pigeon Post by Arthur Ransome

The Light Eaters by ZoĆ« Schlanger

What I'm Reading Now:

Every day during the pandemic I began to list 3 Good Things.

Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things.

Here are 3 Good Things from last week:

Good Thing #1:

My husband always gets to enjoy his birthday and
Father's Day in the same week,
this time with a new recipe for Banana Nut Bread.

Good Thing #2:

My favorite sign from No Kings Day.

Good Thing #3:

Just about the only review books I accept nowadays
are nonfiction picture books. I just received a copy of
Jason Chin's new book, Hurricane, and the same day
I learn the library in Galveston is having a traveling
exhibition of Jason Chin's original artwork.

Weekend linkup spots are listed below. Click on the picture to visit the site.

I hope you will join the linkup for Sunday Salon below.

  1. I hope your sewing retreat is very rewarding — it sounds really good. And I hope you do a blog post about whatever you create with the new skills.
I also read The Light Eaters this week. I need to reread parts because it’s challenging.

Thanks for hosting Sunday Salon… mae at maefood.blogspot.com

  2. I loved your Chin post. And I think the sewing retreat sounds wonderful. QUilting is so beautiful and I can't think of anything more fun than learning and creating with others, especially people you already know and love. (Awesome sign!)

  3. Ooh, a sewing retreat sounds lovely! I hope you have a lot of fun.

My grandmother did a lot of quilting and I always wanted to pick it up, but I haven't had a lot of time for crafty stuff while studying. Besides, so much reading to do, haha! But maybe someday.

  6. Quilting looks like funa nd I have a cousin who made a living writing books about it. Her name is Donna Thomas so your aunt may have seen some of her books. I've lost touch with her, sadly, after we worked on a genealogy project and she moved.

Happy birthday to your husband! I celebrate mine the first week of June. It's always good to be on this side of the grass, haha; My book for the classic spin is Picnic at Hanging Rock.

  7. I used to do quite a bit of sewing but not so much recently. I even gave my sewing machine away. I had an aunt and a cousin who were great quilters - I have several of their works. I once made the the attempt myself and started a quilt. My cousin ended up finishing it for me!

  9. Oh! Yea for you enjoying the sewing retreat! Your sister-in-law looks very productive! I saw The Light Eaters on another blog and immediately thought of you. Your mini loaves look delicious! What a great sign for No Kings Day…I thought we settled that issue back in 1776? That was good timing on Hurricane. I wonder if you’ve read Tear Soup? It’s a fabulous children’s (and adult) book on grieving. Happy reading to you!
