We are so happy we got to celebrate with our granddaughter, Bailey, as she graduated from college. Yay, Bailey!
We came home and jumped rapidly into gift-buying and gift-wrapping and gift-packaging and gift-mailing mode. We are relying on Santa now to deliver the gifts in a timely manner to our family in Chicago, East Texas, and Dallas. Fingers crossed!

We love watching our favorite holiday movies at this time of year. We always look forward to How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) and Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) and Miracle on 34th Street (1947) and It's a Wonderful Life (1946).
This year we tried two new holiday movies, and I was glad to see them both, though they were very different movies. Both movies were on Netflix.
Joyeux Noël (2009) takes place during the Christmas truce of 1914 as it was experienced by Scottish, French, and German soldiers.
And, yes, Last Christmas (2019) is a rom-com, but the cast includes Emma Thompson and Michelle Yeoh so it might be a little more than just another Christmas rom-com.
I started listing 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I have a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 Good Things from last week...

ReplyDeleteI love the story of the Christmas Truce (you may have seen me mention the play of that on my blog this week!) so I really do want to see this movie. I have another one on this, older, subtitles, that is similar. And John McCutcheon's song. It should be hammered into all our heads. Three cheers for Bailey! (I've told the out of towners, look for gifts by Twelfth Night -- it worked for the Magi.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely granddaughter you have and it is great that you got to share this important moment with her. I love those blue mistflowers. They are among my favorite autumn flowers. Mine are in bloom now, too.
ReplyDeleteI love Lantana, too, but we can only grow it here in the summer and then have to replant it the next year. when I was in Italy I was gobsmacked by the huge bushes of it everywhere. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really feeling the season yet; maybe a Christmas film woud help - the 1947 Miracle on 24th Street is one of my absolute favourites...conversely I found it's a Wonderful Life scary and depressing as a child. Wonder if I should give it another go.

ReplyDeleteAs we roll into Christmas week all my favorite classic movies are set to be watched and enjoyed.
It’s not going to be a white Christmas here this year, temps in the 30s and 40s are expected and I am fine with that.

ReplyDeleteThe 1966 animated version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a favorite of ours, too. Also the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol, and the wonderful British TV adaptations of The Tailor of Gloucester (1989) starring Ian Holm, and A Child's Christmas in Wales (1987) starring Denholm Elliott. I'm also rather fond of The Holiday, and Patrick Stewart's adaption of A Christmas Carol. And I can't forget Rudolf, the Red-Nosed Reindeer!
I'm definitely going to look for The Tailor of Gloucester and A Child's Christmas in Wales. I haven't seen either of those.

ReplyDeleteLove your themed Christmas tree. We've had themed trees, either Star Trek or U.S. Coast Guard (my husband and I both served). Congratulations to your granddaughter. May she have a terrific career and a (seasonal reference here) wonderful life. Speaking of Christmas movies, our tradition is the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol. We also enjoy The Polar Express, which I'm surprised no one else has mentioned. Happy Holidays to all!
