What is the Sunday Salon?
The Sunday Salon is a spot to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's a great opportunity to visit and join in the conversations on other blogs.
We are so happy we got to celebrate with our granddaughter, Bailey, as she graduated from college. Yay, Bailey!
We came home and jumped rapidly into gift-buying and gift-wrapping and gift-packaging and gift-mailing mode. We are relying on Santa now to deliver the gifts in a timely manner to our family in Chicago, East Texas, and Dallas. Fingers crossed!
What I Read Last Week:
The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan (Thriller)
What I'm Reading Now:
Grace & Henry's Holiday Movie Marathon by Matthew Norman
What I Posted Last Week Here at Readerbuzz:
We love watching our favorite holiday movies at this time of year. We always look forward to How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) and Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) and Miracle on 34th Street (1947) and It's a Wonderful Life (1946).
This year we tried two new holiday movies, and I was glad to see them both, though they were very different movies. Both movies were on Netflix.
Joyeux Noël (2009) takes place during the Christmas truce of 1914 as it was experienced by Scottish, French, and German soldiers.
And, yes, Last Christmas (2019) is a rom-com, but the cast includes Emma Thompson and Michelle Yeoh so it might be a little more than just another Christmas rom-com.

I started listing 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I have a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Here are 3 Good Things from last week...
We have so many pretty flowers at our house this fall...

I assume you have also seen Hitchcock’s film “The Thirty-Nine Steps” — a wonderful Film Noir!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time with all the prep for Christmas… mae
We are planning to watch it soon.
DeleteBeautiful photo with Bailey. I am so happy for her.
ReplyDeleteMany congrats to Bailey! What a great photo. I love your winter flowers and spinach.
ReplyDeleteI love the story of the Christmas Truce (you may have seen me mention the play of that on my blog this week!) so I really do want to see this movie. I have another one on this, older, subtitles, that is similar. And John McCutcheon's song. It should be hammered into all our heads. Three cheers for Bailey! (I've told the out of towners, look for gifts by Twelfth Night -- it worked for the Magi.
ReplyDeleteJust spent a week in Plano, Tx and loved the sunshine and warmer temps. Got some outdoor walking in too.
ReplyDeleteI love discovering things still in bloom in my garden and your flowers look beautiful! Congratulations once again to Bailey!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Bailey! Graduation is so satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got to go see her graduation! I know she was glad to have you there. I haven't watched too many holiday movies yet this year. I was waiting until we were on Christmas break. Now it's time to get them out of the cabinet and have a few marathons! I hope you have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Bailey.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched any Christmas movies yet, but I'd really like to. Lots of Christmas music playing while I drive and in the house though. Have a wonderful holiday!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Bailey. I hope she has a wonderful career ahead of her.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Bailey! I hope you and your family have a great Christmas.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations again to your granddaughter and I do hope Santa's helpers at the post office/UPS/FedEx/etc. get everything where it's supposed to go and on time.
ReplyDeleteI hope Santa comes through for you!! Merry Christmas! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely granddaughter you have and it is great that you got to share this important moment with her. I love those blue mistflowers. They are among my favorite autumn flowers. Mine are in bloom now, too.
ReplyDeleteI love Lantana, too, but we can only grow it here in the summer and then have to replant it the next year. when I was in Italy I was gobsmacked by the huge bushes of it everywhere. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really feeling the season yet; maybe a Christmas film woud help - the 1947 Miracle on 24th Street is one of my absolute favourites...conversely I found it's a Wonderful Life scary and depressing as a child. Wonder if I should give it another go.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Bailey! Merry Christmas! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteFlowers in December, I wish.
ReplyDeleteAs we roll into Christmas week all my favorite classic movies are set to be watched and enjoyed.
It’s not going to be a white Christmas here this year, temps in the 30s and 40s are expected and I am fine with that.
Merry Christmas
Congrats to Bailey, and great that you helped her celebrate. I love lantana, it's grown all over Greece, but it doesn’t thrive here in the UK, sadly. Have a wonderful Christmas
ReplyDeleteI hope the presents make it!
ReplyDeleteWishing you and yours a very merry Christmas
It all sounds good! Cheers to Bailey and see seeing flowers in winter! I'm done shopping for now. I'll have to finish later and mail!
ReplyDeletewow, you still have lantana blooming?
ReplyDeleteWhat did you think of Buchan's classic?
Cute picture with Bailey!
We both enjoyed The 39 Steps. Now I think we need to see the classic movie.
DeleteGrace & Henry's Holiday Movie Marathon looks fun. And so does Last Christmas. I don't think I've seen that one.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are lovely and I like the sound of the Joyeux Noel movie!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful Christmas!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your granddaughter! And I love watching Miracle on 34th Street every Christmas, too. It's such a good movie. I also love Desk Set and While You Were Sleeping. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas! :D
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your granddaughter!!! And the flowers are all so lovely!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful holiday
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your granddaughter, Bailey! And to you, on getting your Christmas shopping/wrapping/mailing done. I hope everything is delivered on time.
ReplyDeleteThe 1966 animated version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a favorite of ours, too. Also the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol, and the wonderful British TV adaptations of The Tailor of Gloucester (1989) starring Ian Holm, and A Child's Christmas in Wales (1987) starring Denholm Elliott. I'm also rather fond of The Holiday, and Patrick Stewart's adaption of A Christmas Carol. And I can't forget Rudolf, the Red-Nosed Reindeer!
I'm definitely going to look for The Tailor of Gloucester and A Child's Christmas in Wales. I haven't seen either of those.
DeleteYour flowers are beautiful! We have pansies, cyclamen and some primrose, but that's about it here. Too cold for anything else. Love Charlie Brown holiday movies! Have a wonderful week, Deb!
ReplyDeleteLantana always seems to attract colorful butterflies! I'm glad for your movie recs ... the rom-com looks fun. And that's a precious picture with your granddaughter .... lovely.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Bailey and fingers crossed that Santa delivers all the packages on time!
ReplyDeletewishing you a fabulous festive season!
ReplyDeletecheers
sherry
I hope you have a great Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI loved Joyeux Noel many years ago. Hope the post delivers! Wishing you a very happy Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLove your themed Christmas tree. We've had themed trees, either Star Trek or U.S. Coast Guard (my husband and I both served). Congratulations to your granddaughter. May she have a terrific career and a (seasonal reference here) wonderful life. Speaking of Christmas movies, our tradition is the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol. We also enjoy The Polar Express, which I'm surprised no one else has mentioned. Happy Holidays to all!
ReplyDeleteBare ground! Green things! I miss those things very much once our winter begins. Enjoy your holiday movies. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI just signed up for Sunday Salon. Thank you so much for hosting it!
