Who Knows Where December Will Take Me?

I am a disciplined reader. I make lists of books I want to read, I see what books I can find, and then I carefully plan out my reading.

I shall do things differently in December.

I've already met all my reading goals for the year. So why not read whatever brings me joy?

I might read some of these books. Some are from the library---Spice Road; Good Things; Wreck: A Novel; Three Holidays and a Wedding; Faculty Lounge. Some are books I own---Buckeye; Around the World in 80 Novels; The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny; The Hundred Years of Lenni and Margo; Grand Hotel; Evensong. Some are kid biographies---Saint Francis; Hans Christian Anderson; Alice Waters.

I also have a lot of brand-new Kindle books that I got for my birthday---The Collected Stories of Eudora Welty; Sweet Alchemy; Keep Going; The Gene; Eiffel's Tower; String Too Short to Be Saved; Around the World in 50 Years; Democracy Awakening; Prequel; A High Wind in Jamaica; Middlemarch; Penguin Book of Haiku; Barefoot in Paris; Farmer Boy; Little House on the Prairie; Saveur; The Ministry of the Future; Wherever You Go, There You Are; The Devil's Highway; Eat Post Like; Something Fresh; Paris Metro Tales; The Screwtape Letters.

No planning. No organization.

Reading-at-will.

Who knows where December will take me?

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each Tuesday That Artsy Reader Girl assigns a topic and then post her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.

  1. Your list is overwhelming … so many books, so little time (1 month).

  6. Enjoy your free-reading! I'm a list maker as well and it's always fun to take a step out of the usual. My reading was pretty slow this year so I'm using December to frantically catch up on my goals! Happy reading!

  7. Three Holidays and a Wedding was fun. Screwtape Letters on audio was really good. My son and I listened about 14 years ago--he was in high school and we had some of the best conversations ever all because we were stuck in the car together several days. I highly recommend it if you like audios.

  8. Three Holidays and a Wedding was a fun read. The Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot requires a box of tissues be handy. I hope you enjoy reading all of these when the opportunity presents itself.

  14. I have Wreck and Buckeye in my stacks, but the latter is one that I plan to give to my mom for Christmas, so that one will have to wait until later in 2026. I'm going to continue with my TBR lists from this past summer and fall. I also want to try to wrap up my "Year of Elizabeth Strout," so maybe I should focus on those first. Glancing at your e-books, I'm curious about Eat Post Like. I'll wait to read your review on that one, but it definitely caught my eye. I'm also thinking I could devote one month to library books, since I usually try to read from my own stacks. I have quite a list to pick from, so I'm sure I'd have no trouble find several at my library.

  15. I'd like to read Buckeye. You have some great titles here, Deb. I usually plan on my reading but inevitably a library hold comes through and I go in another direction than planned.

  16. My MIL borrowed my copy of C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity before I had a chance to read it. The Screwtape Letters is one I read back in high school, so I'm probably due for a refresher.
