  3. What an excellent list! I've read many of these, and it's interesting to see them in a new light with the year distribution. A Ring of Endless Light is one of my fav L'Engle books though I read it as a teen so YMMV. We do seem to have similar taste, though I've gotten away from classics the last several years.

  4. Definitely a classic list! I tried to count — I think I have read around 70 of them.
FIguring out which books were published each year sounds like an enormous job, so I don’t think I’ll try to find books from the missing years that are on my list. One classic that’s obscure but always appears on lists is “Parnassus” (1917).

  5. This is a cool idea for a post! I don’t know that I’ve read enough memorable books from the early 1900s to fill out every year, but I might have to try it sometime. :)

  8. Fantastic list! I've read a lot of your picks, even though I made different choices for those years when compiling mine. Some of the ones I haven't, but would like to, include: Kim; Grand Hotel; The Hiding Place; The House on Mango Street; and Bird by Bird. Lonesome Dove is another one I think I really must read, based on your love of it, though I had never been interested in it otherwise. It's always great to share our enthusiasms with one another.

  9. I've read a bunch of these! I'm tempted to see if I can come up with my own list, but that sounds like a lot of work.
