What I Finished Last Week

As you might imagine, I read (mostly) Cybils books last week.
I'm happy to say that I've now read 30 of the 39 Easy Reader nominees and
30 of the 44 Early Chapter Book nominees.

What I'm Reading Now

Now I'm waiting for mail delivery so I can finish reading the last 23 Cybils nominees.

Right now, I am reading my Un-Birthday Books, reading here and there in Stitches and The Literacy Cookbook and The Novel Cure and Italian Ways and Reading in the Wild. I'm also rereading The Happiness Project for book club on Tuesday and browsing through Americanah and Transatlantic for the author reading on Monday.

Book-ish Events This Week

This will be a very book-ish week.

Monday night is the Inprint author reading in Houston.
Both Colum McCann and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will be reading.
Tuesday night is book club.
We are discussing The Happiness Project.
Wednesday night is Anne Lamott in Houston,
talking about her new book, Stitches.
(This event is sold out, so I'm not sure I will be able to go.
Hope a seat will open up on Wednesday.)

I'm also participating in
from November 15 to November 30!

And what am I giving away?

What are you reading this week?

What is the Sunday Salon
Imagine some university library's vast reading room.
It's filled with people--students and faculty and strangers who've wandered in.
They're seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them,
and they're all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go.
Later they'll mill around the open dictionaries and
compare their thoughts on the afternoon's literary intake....

That's what happens at the Sunday Salon, except it's all virtual.
Every Sunday the bloggers participating in that week's Salon
get together--at their separate desks, in their own particular time zones--and read.
And blog about their reading. And comment on one another's blogs.
Think of it as an informal, weekly, mini read-a-thon,
an excuse to put aside one's earthly responsibilities
and fall into a good book.

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia at The Printed Page. We share books that we found in our mailboxes last week.
It is being hosted in November by I Totally Paused.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between!  This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from! I love being a part of this and I hope you do too! As part of this weekly meme Book Journey loves to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme.

  1. Looks like you have a fun week planned with all your bookish things going on. I hope the rest of the nominees come soon so you can finish those and start making your decisions, tough as that must be!

  2. What is the Un-Birthday Book Club? Just curious.

  3. I really love the look of those picture books. Enjoy! And thanks for visiting my blog.

  4. Yes, I will have a book-ish week. I wish I'd jumped in and bought a ticket for Anne Lamott. It seems very unlikely that I will get to see her.

  5. The Un-birthday Book Club is an online club that a group of us started five? six? seven? more? years ago. Each person has an Un-birthday Month. We send a book to that person during their month and then we get books our month. Very fun.

  6. All the children's books are now read and heading to my school library.

  7. You always have the best weeks.

    THANKS for sharing.

BTW…Stop by for a FUN giveaway if you haven't done so yet: GIVEAWAY

  8. Your un-birthday books look amazing!

Good for you for doing such a great job with your Cybil reading.

    Have a great week!

  9. The Un-Birthday Book Club sounds like so fun! I hope you're enjoying Stitches. Just looking at your list of books is adding more books to my tbr list.

  10. Sounds like you have a busy week! Enjoy!

  11. So jealous about Anne Lamont. I hope you get a seat. I didn't realize you were reading for the Cybils this year. When are they selected? How do you organize yourself when you are reading so many books?

  12. This year I'm trying to listen to my gut feelings about a book. In years past, I've attempted to write reviews for every book. I decided to enjoy the whole experience more this year and not worry about trying to review everything. Much more relaxed about trying to read and evaluated 83 books.

  13. Enjoy your new books and reader events!

  14. You have a wonderful mailbox! Happy reading!!

    Here is my post.

  15. I see you're drowning in Cybils books too. What a fun category you have! The Two and Only Kelly Twins looks cute.
The Un-Birthday Book Club sounds like a blast!
    Have a great week.

  16. Oh my goodness, I want all of Cybil's books :-)

  17. What a great book haul, the children's books look wonderful. Have a good week and enjoy your reads :)

  18. What a great book haul, the children's books look wonderful. Have a good week and enjoy your reads :)

  19. Enjoy all of your goodies and events this week. I like the idea of the Un-birthday Book Club. :)

  20. so many great events! I like the sound of the book Italian Ways- look forward to your review.

  21. You've got so much going on. Your unbirthday books all look great. I'm particularly interested in Reading in the Wild, which I see you're reading now. I hope we get to hear more about it. I haven't seen it before. Your Cybils judging always looks fun from the outside, I'm sure it's a whole lot of work. And your bookish events sound great too.

I love to hear what you think.
