The Library of Congress National Book Festival is coming soon. I've always wanted to attend this book festival, and I still have hopes that I will someday, but, for now, I'm happy that it will be available to all through videos on demand. It will take place September 17-26, and it features over 100 authors, poets, and writers. For more information, take a look here.
Just a few more days to apply to be a Cybils judge! The Cybils Awards recognizes books written for children and young adults that combine both the highest literary merit and popular appeal. As one of the two original founders put it, between the brussels sprouts of literary merit and the gummy bears of popularity contests, we are the organic chicken nuggets--both yummy and nutritious! If you love children's and YA books, please apply to be a Cybils judge here.

Did I tell you how happy I am that Bailey is here this weekend?
I'm happy you joined us here at the Sunday Salon. Sunday Salon is a place to link up and to share what we have been doing during the week. It's a great way to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.
Some of the things we often talk about at the Sunday Salon:
- What was your week like?
- Read any good books? Tell us about them.
- What other bookish things did you do?
- What else is going on in your life?
Other places where you may like to link up over the weekend are below. Click on the picture to visit the site.
My linkup for Sunday Salon is below.
I wish it will be like in Houston here in Sri Lanka re the covid. Our lockdown extended till the 13th and I wonder whether there is an end in sight.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the new grand baby. Such a delight to look forward to.
We are delighted to get to know Bailey this weekend and to have her meet her aunts and uncles. She is also going to visit a college in Galveston she is considering attending.
DeleteI've always wanted to go to the Library of Congress Book Festival, too.
ReplyDeleteIt will be wonderful to spend time with Bailey.
How wonderful to be able to welcome your granddaughter to the family! A great selection of books read and in progress, and thanks for the link about the Library of Congress Book Festival.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the book festival.
DeleteI finished books by Katie Kitamura and Joyce Carol Oates this week. That's about the limit of my reading capacity for one week - two books. Thanks for the link to the book festival. I'm definitely going to check that out. Enjoy your weekend with the granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteTwo books a week is an excellent number, I think.
DeleteWhat a special weekend you will share! I'm thrilled for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jeanie.
DeleteAn interesting selection of books you finished and they were all 4 stars! I like the sound of The Superior Person's Book of Words.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend getting to know your granddaughter!
The Superior Person's Book of Words is delightful.
DeleteI loiked How to Cook a Wolf and the Art of Eating. You mentioned David Copperfield and this makes me want to get back to classics once in a while. Great news about your graddaughter's visit. Exciting!
ReplyDeleteDavid Copperfield feels amazingly contemporary and fresh.
DeleteYour new granddaughter is lucky to have you as her family. I hope you'll tell us more of her story and how she came to join you. Thank you for hosting the Sunday Salon!

ReplyDeleteI do hope that continues, too.
DeleteI hope that official FDA approval prompts more people across the country to get vaccinated. Covid numbers in Alaska hit new pandemic highs this week, I believe.
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic weekend with your new granddaughter! I know she will be met with open arms!
It's shocking to hear that numbers are peaking in Alaska.
DeleteI don't know what I was thinking but I put the wrong link when I originally signed in. The second link is the correct one. Sorry about that!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to treasure every minute of your time with Bailey!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marg.
DeleteI am so pleased you are getting to spend more time with your granddaughter - hopefully there will be lots more get togethers in the future too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great reading week - enjoy your new books and the book club!
Here's to many more get togethers with Bailey in the future.
DeleteWhat a special weekend you must be having! Enjoy every moment with that sweet new granddaughter and her parents. Thanks for the link to the National Book Festival. I hope to attend several events virtually. Glad your book club is meeting, even by zoom. I'll be curious to see what our library group in FL will do...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad we went back to Zoom.
DeleteThat is great news about visiting with your new granddaughter!
ReplyDeleteAnd also great news about the vaccination rates going up and COVID going down. Fantastic!
Fingers crossed that this trend continues.
DeleteGlad your numbers are dropping. I read your post on books about cafes and wanted to recommend The Only Cafe

Set in Toronto at a real cafe that is very close to our old house.
Thanks for the recommendation, Jackie.
DeleteI know you are enjoying your granddaughter's visit right now! How lucky both of you are. I hope her visit is all you and she hope for. The books you read and are reading are interesting. Back to your old non-fiction groove are we? LOL
ReplyDeleteFortunately I'm reading a little David Copperfield every day, too.
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful time with Bailey!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lori!
Deletesounds like things are going pretty well. enjoy your visit with bailey
ReplyDeleteAll is well here, Sherry.
DeleteYour new granddaughter looks happy. And looks like ZOOM is active as ever on your end. Our ZOOM call got hacked by individuals who wanted to have some fun this week.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad to hear this, Trin.
DeleteYayyyyyyyyyy Bailey!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jinjer.
DeleteLibrary of Congress National Book Festival looks like a fun virtual event to attend.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time with Bailey! It sounds like it's going to be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOur vaccination numbers are good but schools have just started on the first of September and I already have a pupil who tested positive and lots of students in quarentine; I'm slightly worried about the rest of the schoolyear. The numbers here are on the rise.
Have a great week!
I hope all goes well for you, Lynn, in Belgium.
DeleteI love the name Bailey! Congrats on the new granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week and your books, and I'm also happy to hear about more vaccinations.
Stay safe!
It's a beautiful name.
DeleteI hope you are having a wonderful visit with your granddaughter! I love her smile and her name. :)
ReplyDeleteWe had one f2f book club meeting, but now we're back to Zoom.
Hooray for more vaccinations in your area. I just got back from driving through our little tourist town, which was jam-packed with Labor Day visitors. I'm hoping our numbers don't jump in the coming weeks since a lot of folks who travel here live in eastern OR and they aren't pro-vaccines or pro-masks.
Back to Bailey... I hope you get a wonderful photo of the two of you together. Enjoy your special time with her!
Thank you so much, Les! I will post pictures next week.
DeleteHallo, Hallo,...
ReplyDeleteThis is my second Sunday Post in two months and I consider that an accomplishment of its own. I've found a way to re-examine what I've accomplished in a way that cuts down on the guilt of what I wasn't able to do. Also, wicked congrats your grandchild is with you! I know how important it is to have them around. I always loved being with my grandparents when I was a similar age. Overall, despite the gloom of lightning storms plaguing my life, I was able to sneak in a few wicked good reads this August (and in July, too). I'm eager for September though and offered a purview of what I'm reading. Plus, I shared a link to the guest post I wrote about seeking Austen on Audio - a piece I hope others who enjoy the Classics might enjoy reading themselves.
Here's to a new month and new stories to explore!
Thank you, Jorie!
DeleteI hope you had a lovely visit with your grand daughter Bailey and that everyone was as excited to meet her as you were. Ag you are such a lovely person!
ReplyDeleteOur Book Club has been on and off this whole year, I did try to do Zoom, but not all our ladies are techno savvy. We will get together again tomorrow night and I am so looking forward to it. I am very impressed with you ladies and your virtual Book Club!
Wishing you a lovely week ahead Debbie.

We had to resort to Zoom after cases began to skyrocket here.
DeleteI'm sure you're delighted to meet this newest member of your family! They both look so happy! Take good care!
ReplyDeleteLots of great books, I have added the one on bird migration to my TBR!
ReplyDeleteAlso looking forward to Library of Congress National Book Festival, I have enjoyed some interviews from previous years
I should look back at previous years.
DeleteWe are so happy that we get to do this.
ReplyDeleteI missed the announcement last week - congratulations on your new grand-daughter! I am sure your Labor Day weekend went amazing. It's both good and sad to see things go back to remote again. Good that the warnings are being heeded and sad that we are still here, still struggling with this.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week!
You'd think we would have learned what to do by now...
DeleteBailey seems wonderful. So glad she came for a visit, congrats!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan.
DeleteIs your club back to Zoom meetings because the numbers are going up? My club will meet on my patio next week but I know so many right now with COVID who were vaccinated, even.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's what has happened here.
