The Sunday Salon: Spring Break with Grandkids, Books, and Birds

Welcome! I am delighted that you joined us here at the
Sunday Salon

What is the Sunday Salon?

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

Spring is Migration Celebration and Spring Fling and Open House at the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge. I will be volunteering at all of these for my Texas Master Naturalist group in March and April.

My grandkids are off for Spring Break and I am visiting them all. We hope to go on some nature walks and read some books together and have some picnics.

What I Read Last Week:

The Astral Library by Kate Quinn (Speculative Fiction)

What I'm Reading Now:

The Brothers Karamozov by Fyodor Dostoevsky (Classic)

Listening to Your Life: Daily Meditations by Frederick Buechner (Spirituality)

I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Because I am off in East Texas with limited Internet, I shall share a few old Good Things from previous visits:

Good Thing #1:

G-kids Lucy and Bailey.

Good Thing #2:

G-kids Annie and Wyatt.

Good Thing #3:

The beauty of an East Texas morning.

Weekend linkup spots are listed below. Click on the picture to visit the site.

I hope you will join the linkup for Sunday Salon below.

  6. Oh, that photo of the misty sun and trees is stunning! It looks like a painting! I'm glad you're having such a good time with all the grandkids, Deb. And I'm inspired to read The Astral Library having read your review on Goodreads. I wasn't sure it was for me, but I think I'll enjoy the literary references/jokes. Have a great weekend!

  17. I love the idea of mindful baking! My go to bread recipe is beer bread, although I always keep buying bread baking books whenever I see one. I may try your British bread... remembering not to be too "attached". It reminds me of the Next Gen Chef I was watching on Netflix. Ultimately what the top chef judges wanted to see was originality and something of themselves in the recipes. And when things went wrong in the process how they had to "get over it" and figure out something else. Thanks for sharing. I feel motivated to take another look at my growing collection of cookbooks!

  18. Wow, spring break is early. It's still winter. Lol. Although, as soon as the calendar changed to March, the birds have been frequenting my balcony. The cats and I are enjoying the entertainment. Enjoy the time with your family! :)

  20. How fun to get to spend the week with your grandchildren!

I read the Cambodia book quite some years ago and remember it as good but intense (how could it not be?!)

  21. We're going out to Austin the end of this month to babysit while our daughter and SIL take a trip for their anniversary. Usually the blue bonnets, Indian red paint and poppies are out and it's gorgeous! We hope to visit Book People downtown, too! Love that bookstore! Hope you have fun with the grandkids in beautiful East Texas!

  28. Sounds like a wonderful week, Deb! I love Kate Quinn's historical fiction, but The Astral Library sounds like something completely different from her - I definitely want to read it.

  30. Cute pics of the G-kids! I was glad for your reviews of the Quinn novel and the memoir by Loung Ung. After finishing the recent memoir by Jung Chang ... I might have to later read Ung's memoir ... I'm sure it's filled with terror and sadness but we need to learn from these survivors. Many offer much to say.
