What is the Sunday Salon?
The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.
Spring is Migration Celebration and Spring Fling and Open House at the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge. I will be volunteering at all of these for my Texas Master Naturalist group in March and April.
My grandkids are off for Spring Break and I am visiting them all. We hope to go on some nature walks and read some books together and have some picnics.
What I Read Last Week:
The Astral Library by Kate Quinn (Speculative Fiction)
First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers by Loung Ung (Memoir)
What I'm Reading Now:
The Brothers Karamozov by Fyodor Dostoevsky (Classic)
Listening to Your Life: Daily Meditations by Frederick Buechner (Spirituality)
I began to list 3 Good Things every day during the pandemic. Now I've established a regular routine of writing down my 3 Good Things. Because I am off in East Texas with limited Internet, I shall share a few old Good Things from previous visits:

The Astral Library sounds fun. I don’t think I could bear to read, First They Killed My Father. What a wonderful three good things!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have a lovely spring break ahead of you. Enjoy your time with family.
ReplyDeleteSpring break here too, although Father Winter came back yesterday!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time with the grandkids!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are having a great time with your family!
ReplyDeleteOh, that photo of the misty sun and trees is stunning! It looks like a painting! I'm glad you're having such a good time with all the grandkids, Deb. And I'm inspired to read The Astral Library having read your review on Goodreads. I wasn't sure it was for me, but I think I'll enjoy the literary references/jokes. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for Astral Library. Lookign forward to that one. I wn't link up this week as I only had some randomness to post. We also have Spring break here this week!
ReplyDeleteAlways feel free to post randomness anytime you want!
DeleteYou finished some fabulous books - Quinn's is on my holds list and I just borrowed Ung's book. Sounds like an educational book for this time. Your plans for Spring Break sound gentle. Certainly a good ambiance to bond even more. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDear Deb, enjoy your time, dear friend 🧡
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds busy and happy, the way it should be.
ReplyDeleteSpring break with the grandkids sounds wonderful. Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a fabulous time!
ReplyDeleteI KNOW you are having a good week!!!!! Rae
ReplyDeleteOh my! Your East Texas morning sunrise is a stunner. And so are those grands. What a fun time! Happy Spring Flinging!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the time!
ReplyDeleteHope you and the grandkids have a wonderful spring break!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time with grandkids, and that cake looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of mindful baking! My go to bread recipe is beer bread, although I always keep buying bread baking books whenever I see one. I may try your British bread... remembering not to be too "attached". It reminds me of the Next Gen Chef I was watching on Netflix. Ultimately what the top chef judges wanted to see was originality and something of themselves in the recipes. And when things went wrong in the process how they had to "get over it" and figure out something else. Thanks for sharing. I feel motivated to take another look at my growing collection of cookbooks!
ReplyDeleteWow, spring break is early. It's still winter. Lol. Although, as soon as the calendar changed to March, the birds have been frequenting my balcony. The cats and I are enjoying the entertainment. Enjoy the time with your family! :)
ReplyDeleteThat g-kid pics are adorable. Good good things.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to get to spend the week with your grandchildren!
ReplyDeleteI read the Cambodia book quite some years ago and remember it as good but intense (how could it not be?!)
We're going out to Austin the end of this month to babysit while our daughter and SIL take a trip for their anniversary. Usually the blue bonnets, Indian red paint and poppies are out and it's gorgeous! We hope to visit Book People downtown, too! Love that bookstore! Hope you have fun with the grandkids in beautiful East Texas!
ReplyDeleteI love Book People, too.
DeleteCute grandkids, love the photo!
ReplyDeleteVolunteering sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteYour Texas morning picture is so pretty. Nice to have time with the grandkids.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have had some time with your grandkids and that is a lovely photo of dawn!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with the grandkids. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteGood to see you enjoyed the Kate Quinn book and that you get the opportunity to hear you speak, I look forward at some point ot reading it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of your grandkids and what a beautiful morning picture! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful week, Deb! I love Kate Quinn's historical fiction, but The Astral Library sounds like something completely different from her - I definitely want to read it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books and have a great week!

Cute pics of the G-kids! I was glad for your reviews of the Quinn novel and the memoir by Loung Ung. After finishing the recent memoir by Jung Chang ... I might have to later read Ung's memoir ... I'm sure it's filled with terror and sadness but we need to learn from these survivors. Many offer much to say.
ReplyDeleteAww the grand kids are so cute! Hope you're having the best time with them.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had quite an adventure, Deb. Thankfully, you had people to help you out. Thanks for sharing your photos. So nice to see the grands. Praying you feel better soon.
