Hour 24: Middlemarch is Finished!
and End-of-Event Meme
And I close the book on Middlemarch. I feel quite satisfied.
Hour 23: Middlemarch
I've got seventy pages to go and two hours left.
Hour 22: Mini-Challenge: Blame It On
I'm awake (kinda-awake, sorta-awake) and I've got three hours to finish the last 105 pages of Middlemarch.
I just can't resist a mini-challenge, too.
I've added Tess of the D'Urbervilles to my TBR list, and for that enormous title I blame Yamini @skepticalreader from Must Read Faster.
Hours 15-21
...just...couldn't...stay...awake....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
Hours 11-14
Reading Middlemarch. Like crazy.
Made it to page 661 before...I...fell...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
Hours 9-10: Co-hosting!
Hour 8: Mini Challenge: Spine Poetry
Spine Poetry Mini Challenge,
using only blue-cover books obtained from recent library conference:
My Diary from the Edge of the World
from the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess
Summer by summer,
those girls, last in a long line of rebels,
kissing in America the boy who knew everything,
betting on hope.
Listen to the moon.
Gone crazy in Alabama.
Survival strategies of the almost brave into the dangerous world.
Hour 7: Mini Challenge: Treasure Hunt
Alright, this was fun. The instructions were simple: Find a book with a tree on the cover or snow on the cover or weapons on the cover. Here's what I came up with:
Weapons and snow were a snap.
Challenge completed.
Hour 2: Mini Challenge: Classic Words of Wisdom
I couldn't resist sharing one of my favorites:
I relish the impossible things. Like completing a 24-Hour-Readathon!
Hour 1: Opening Meme
Pre-Hour 1
It's my 15th time at the starting gate.
It's time for Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon!
and End-of-Event Meme
And I close the book on Middlemarch. I feel quite satisfied.
End of Event Meme:
- Which hour was most daunting for you? I just couldn't keep myself from falling asleep in Hour 15.
- Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? I am amazed to find that reading one enormous classic was a perfect choice for me this readathon.
- Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? It is perfection as it is.
- What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? I loved all the mini-challenges. Co-hosting was especially easy this year because of the prep work Andi and Heather did before the event.
- How many books did you read? Just one, but it was a big one.
- What were the names of the books you read? Middlemarch.
- Which book did you enjoy most? Middlemarch. Mid-book I became quite enamored of it.
- Which did you enjoy least? NA.
- If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders? NA.
- How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time? 100% likely. I will definitely be a reader and I might again be a cheerleader or co-host.
Now I'm off to catch up on some missed sleep.

Hour 7: Mini Challenge: Treasure Hunt
Alright, this was fun. The instructions were simple: Find a book with a tree on the cover or snow on the cover or weapons on the cover. Here's what I came up with:
It was easy to find trees. Apparently all my favorite books have trees on the cover...
...though, oddly, no trees on A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
Opening Meme:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I'm here in Alvin, Texas in the USA.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Middlemarch.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? My delightful husband brought a carton of ice cream and a package of Hershey's Kisses for me to enjoy during Readathon.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I'm a primary school librarian, a reader, and a blogger. I love to read happiness books, travel stories, literary fiction and nonfiction, poetry, and children's books.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? I'm planning to focus on a single book this time. I hope to finish Middlemarch, that 766 page behemoth.

ReplyDeleteI'm very hopeful.
DeleteWOW! All of Middlemarch in one day! Go. Go. Go. Goodluck- see you on the other side.
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe I could do it if I just focused on one book.
DeleteWow, Middlemarch is a long book but I think you can do it! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteYes, 766 pages. And lots of characters. And plots.
DeleteI'm here to cheer for you, Deb! But you look all set - coffee, great book, ice cream for later (not Blue Bell sadly - hasn't that been awful?). Yay for Team Mr. Popper!! Have a great day! Si?
ReplyDeleteOh, Kay, you share my Blue Bell pain.
DeleteWhat a sweet husband! I hope you have a blast today!
ReplyDeleteI love readathon!
DeleteHaven't been around for a long time - my bad! You're looking very comfy :D Setting a great example: I should get off the computer and nestle in my reading chair... Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteHope you get a chance to do so today.
DeleteYou have a great place to read! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI'm very lucky.
DeleteWe have the same papasan! Oh I love that chair, is sooo comfy!. Have a wonderful Readathon. #TeamMrPopper
ReplyDeleteYes. It's perfect.
DeleteBTW, you are doing a great job hosting! As always ;)
DeleteHappy Readathon! I love, love, love that Lewis Carroll quote. Good luck on Middlemarch, you're much braver than I am taking on that one. You can do this! #TeamPopper is on your side!
ReplyDeleteSix impossible things.
DeleteIrene from Team Mr. Popper here. I hope you're enjoying the readathon so far. Please remember that it's all about having fun, so if you feel more like snacking than reading, then go ahead. This event is the perfect excuse for snacking!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll reach your goal. You can do this!
Good luck in my challenge :)
Yes, I may need to take a break after this co-hosting!
DeleteI am so impressed with your spine poetry! “A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading.” ― William Styron I hope you're not exhausted yet, but have found some great books!
ReplyDeleteI have. Thank you!
DeleteHola de nuevo Deb! Loved your book spine poetry - I couldn't create a poem to save my life :)
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying the readathon. Happy reading from #TeamSherlock!
Happy you liked my little poem.
DeleteI love your book spine poetry. And that's pretty impressive that you could create that from only recently acquired blue-colored books. That's a fun way to challenge yourself. Enjoy your reading!
ReplyDeleteNow I need to go back and try the orange-colored ones.
Deletelove the jammies and can i have that chair please!! i have been mainly outside in the sunshine or in on the sofa or my computer chair :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been rainy here, so no outside-in-the-sunshine for me.
DeleteWow! Middlemarch is a big book! I hope that you are enjoying it. I like the idea of spending a read-a-thon just focused on one book and reading away. Have fun and happy reading!
ReplyDelete#TeamSherlock
It seems to free me up.
DeleteIt's the eleventh hour and you are approaching the halfway point. reward yourself with a breath of fresh air, a hot beverage of your choice and ... another burst of pages! We're here to help! #TeamMrPopper
ReplyDeleteYes, I decided to break for a little pizza and a cool beverage. Yet soon I'll be back to the books. Or book.
DeleteGo, read, win! Hope those pages are still turning for you and you're having a great Readathon day!
ReplyDelete#TeamPopper
Thank you so much for keeping me keeping the pages turning!
DeleteHappy cohosting! I hope that you are still loving your readathon and getting lots of fun time in, whether it be napping, snacking, reading, socializing, or all of the above!
ReplyDeleteCo-hosting was fun!
DeleteThanks for co-hosting today! Keep on being awesome!
ReplyDelete#TeamPopper
Thank you for the encouragement. I starting getting sleeping about 9:27....
DeleteYou did a great job co-hosting! Hope you had an awesome Readathon.
ReplyDelete...and slept through...
DeleteSee that? It's the sun, or it will be soon. Have a quick look outside. That's right, leave the imaginary world for a moment, take a quick walk around the garden, the city block, down to the store for another special treat - you've earned it. You've worked hard this read-a-thon, now enjoy the last couple hours. It's not over yet! #TeamMrPopper
ReplyDeleteYes, it's after 5 am here. I've got seventy pages to go.
DeleteWhat progress you've made! Had you started any of Middlemarch before this? I hope you finish. Yeah!
ReplyDeleteYes. I was mid-book or so at the start, but I'd almost despaired of ever reaching the conclusion.
DeleteWell, I applaud for sticking with the book that long until you became "quite enamored" with it. Me? I prefer shorter books and if it had taken that long for me to be enamored with it, I probably would have skipped it. That said, I did have a Middlemarch on my shelf for a long time, but then finally admitted to myself that it just wasn't going to happen. But kudos to you for almost finishing it and hope you can say you enjoyed it when you're done.
ReplyDeleteI gave up on War and Peace a couple of years ago. Now I want to go back and try it again.
DeleteWow, what a fun and busy day! I read Middlemarch years and years ago, so it may be time for a re-read for me.
ReplyDeleteLove your reading spot... and totally laughed-out-loud that A Tree Grows in Brooklyn did not have a tree on the cover!
ReplyDeleteI have not participated in the read-athon for several years now, but I am always cheering for y'all in spirit.
Thanks for being my first cheerleader. I did manage to read 4+ books.
ReplyDeletehttp://readbookswritepoetry.blogspot.in/2015/04/deweys-24-hour-read-thon-finishing-post.html
You enjoyed it so much that I am now wondering why I never participate! I guess I don't want to feel as though I'm chained to a reading couch or chair...but then again, I am often there anyway. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
You did a great job co-hosting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit! I hope you had a great Readathon.
