A Dozen Great Reads; Cybils Changes; a Humphrey Bogart Mini-Marathon; and a Bioblitz

I'm not sure I have room on my blog to tell you about all the good books I read last week.

Have you read any of these? Thoughts?

The Last Flight by Julie Clark
Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman

The 2020 Cybils Awards will be making some changes this year.

I shared some thoughts this week about classic books:

I enjoyed Dewey's 24-Hour Reverse Readathon.

My husband and I had a mini-Humphrey Bogart marathon this week.
I strongly recommend both of these: The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep.

My husband and I participated in the Texas Mid-Coast Bioblitz last week.
It was a relaxing experience, and it felt great to be outdoors.

1. Walking two miles every morning at 6:30.
2. Curbside service at my library.
3. New jigsaw puzzle.

How are you doing this week?
What were the good things from your week?
Any good books to share with me?

Now more than ever I'm very happy you found your way to the Sunday Salon. There are no requirements for linking up at Sunday Salon. Sunday Salon is simply a place for us to link up and to share what we have been doing during the week. Sunday Salon is a great way to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

Some of the things we often talk about at the Sunday Salon:

  • What was your week like?
  • Read any good books? Tell us about them.
  • What other bookish things did you do?
  • What else is going on in your life?

Other places where you may like to link up over the weekend are below. Click on the picture to visit the site.

  1. I haven’t read end any of the books but Sorry I Didn’t Want To Come is on my kindle waiting for me to read it. I’m trying to get up earlier and hopefully when the kids are back to school next week I’ll get back in to a proper routine where me and my dog get out and take in the morning air!

That jigsaw is stunning, I used to work for a jewellers and I love semi precious stones.

    Have a lovely week!

  2. What a pretty jigsaw puzzle! And I'm also interested in Sorry I Didn't Want To Come - I'll see if the library has it. Gives me an excuse to go and peruse the shelves for a few minutes. Honestly, I'm beginning to think that the couple of times a week I go to the library, walk inside with my mask on, see almost no other people, and walk the shelves looking at the books is a mental health thing for me. I miss seeing and shelving books. Sigh. Love the wildflowers!

  3. The Bogart marathon sounds really fun! And that'll be one tough jigsaw but it looks fun and really beautiful.

  5. Oooh, that puzzle looks like fun! We're struggling with a 1,000 piece puzzle (Winslow Homer's Snap the Whip), but we've made it halfway, so we can't quit. ;) Congrats on all the great reading. I've only heard of one of those books, but will make notes of some of your 5/5 reads. Our libraries (we have two within 15 minutes of us - one north and one south) are still closed, but have curbside pickup. I think, until they open up, I'll continue to "borrow" from my personal library shelves here at home. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Deb. I just got back from my walk and it is gorgeous outside today. 79! Unheard of here.

    1. Les, I think this is the easiest puzzle I have put together, as everything easily separated into colors. I'm glad you are enjoying the beautiful world.

    1. I wonder how much of the anti-intellectual push in our country today is a result of bad experiences with education.

  8. I Deb! I miss Paris... But it does seem as if you've had a good week. Sorry I'm late, I didn't want to come is in your Book Club. But seeing that we didn't have Book Club for the past 5 months, I haven't read it yet.

Oooooe - I remember The Big Sleep! I've watched it with my granny when I was about high school age.

I used to love jigsaw puzzles, until I discovered Diamond Painting. That's my craft-drug of choice at the moment.

Hope you will have a great week ahead! Here's my The Sunday Post #7

  9. Wow, glad you had so many good reads this week! I'm definitely going to check out that introvert memoir. And good on you for taking walks at 6:30 am! I've been on a much later schedule this summer, but now with school starting up again, maybe I can start walking that early too.

  10. I added The Last Flight to my library TBR list, thanks.
I forgot I bought a jigsaw this week. I never do them, but thought I would buy (this is my second) some for our next lockdown and is also a way to support small local craft/book stores.
I'm off to read your list of books never reviewed.

  11. That jig-saw looks like it will be a challenge! Those wild flowers look wonderful - along with the little damselfly - what a lovely pic:). I need to do more walking, too. And now it's cooler, perhaps this would be the week to start! Have a great week, Deb:)

  12. That’s way too early for me to be out of the house, usually I’ve only been in bed an hour or two.
You finished a ton of books last week, Sorry I’m Late probably interests me the most.

Wishing you a great reading week, and good luck with the puzzle

  13. Bogart is definitely an incredible actor. We also watched The Maltese Falcon recently for the Nth time. Amazing how those very old films endure forever, while most of the works from that era are frankly unwatchable.

I visited every site on the Sunday Salon list, and enjoyed what they had to say, mostly. I think my post from yesterday fulfills your criteria and doesn't violate your rules!

  16. Changes to CYBILS? Deep breaths. :-) I totally understand why that is happening as I am sure some people are having a more difficult time finding the books they want to read.

  21. I have not read any of the books you mentioned, but I will be following up on some of them. Love the two Bogart movies you mentioned - two of my favorites. The predominance of curbside service might be one of the best innovations to come out of our present circumstances. And getting outside to experience Nature will make any day better.
