A Shiny New Readerbuzz: Resolutions/Hopes for 2021

LIFE

I'm making some resolutions for 2021. Using Kendra Adachi's Lazy Genius Way to guide me, and focusing on what matters, I'm making the resolutions small and routine.

So I've created a small morning routine. Depending on how much time I have available, it can last one minute (who can't do a one-minute routine each morning?!) up to an hour and a half. What does it consist of?

(1) Quiet meditation

(2) Stretching/yoga/walking

(3) Creation time (writing, drawing)

I'm focusing on the word play. Thinking about play reminds me to take life lightly, to stay in the moment, to reframe whatever seems amiss so that it's a positive, to make and do things.

I'm (and this is the hardest thing!) trying to respond to everything that happens---the good, the bad, the in-between---out of love. I'm pausing to draw upon the light that is within me.

READING/BLOGGING

I've taken on several challenges that will guide my reading this year, including the Nonfiction Reader Challenge and the Back to the Classics Challenge. I want to read a little more slowly and carefully this year, and I hope to reflect a little more on my reading. I also am taking on the Comment 4 Comment Challenge in which I plan to reply to every comment left on my blog this year.

Any challenges for you? Any thoughts about my challenges?

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each Tuesday That Artsy Reader Girl assigns a topic and then post her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.

  1. I like the cheerful yellow flower in today's image. And the smile. :)

I've pondered posting some resolutions for 2021, but wondered if I'd waited too many days into the new year. Yours have convinced me to go ahead and do it — but first, to sleep, perchance to dream.

  2. My morning routine is quite similar to yours! That's pretty neat. :)

Thanks for stopping by a little while ago.

  3. After reading Atomic Habits I developed a morning routine that I still follow. It's been over a year now. It helps to start my day right. Your morning routine sounds great. I also practice leaving comments on the blogs of all those who comment on mine. And reflecting on what we read is a good way to retain the info and make use of it. I hope you achieve all of your resolutions!

  4. I'm certainly starting this year with a ton of goals, not all at the same time, of course. Many are things I've been doing on and off for some part of last year and seen the benefits, so I'd like to do them more often. But we'll see. Great goals here - I totally love your goal to respond to everything out of love - challenging for sure but also transformative.

  5. Right now I'm having a hard time trying to respond out of love. I would just like to understand the thought behind it all...and tremendously concerned about the upcoming weeks.

I love your new morning routine. It sounds very emotionally and spiritually satisfying!

  6. Deb, I love your goals and morning routine. I have one as well and my walk/rowing/yoga time is early in the day or I am much more tempted to 'let it go'. Trying to build up my rowing time to help work on strength in my arms and upper body. As to responding out of love to life and 'stuff', I love that too. I'm trying to focus on peace and peaceful thoughts and getting back in the habit of devotional/meditation time. I really desire to do this and know it will be good for me. I've spent too much time in the last few months being upset, angry, and giving in to negative thoughts. I wish you the best and we'll hopefully engender a bit of peace and love in our part of the world. Take care.

  7. Love your morning routine Debbie! I'm back at school early three mornings of the week, but on Tuesday and Thursday I first go to barre class. Bit of me time.

I also think the reading challenges will guide my reading a bit this year. Need to update them a bit already!

Hope you have a wonderful, playful week.

  8. I love your word but I also like how you used "shiny" here. It makes me think of light and hope. A good thing during these dark days.

I also like how you set up a routine whether it be a minute or 30. I am going to try to do sit ups each morning as you have encouraged me. I will do as many as I can which won't be much but my core is shot from sitting all day in a bad chair, working from home.

  10. Those are worthy resolutions and challenges. My main challenge this year will be to try to read more nonfiction books.

  11. I admire your art skills Deb. I haven't set any formal goals or resolutions but, I'm trying to eat more plant based foods and read more of my own books. Good luck with your goals.

  12. These are all lovely goals. I love your morning routine, and one minute every morning at the least should definitely be feasible :)

  13. Your Small Morning Routine sounds perfect. I don't meditate, but I'm thinking about spending the first five minutes of my morning, with my cup of coffee, gazing out the window before I turn on my computer. Why rush into the most recent news of the day before stilling my mind? I have a pretty good exercise routine (riding my Peloton 5 days a week and strength training 3 days a week), but I'd also like to designate an hour for reading during the day. I used to read after work/before fixing dinner, but I got out of that routine and only read at bedtime. I would also like to read with more intention this year. When I zip through a book, my recall of details diminishes. I may wind up with fewer books read, but hopefully they'll be more memorable. Good luck to you and may you have a wonderfully, playful year!

  15. I love that idea. A little meditation- I've always wanted to explore that more- and reacting to things out of love. Something to think about...

  16. Great resolutions for a new year! I kind of like the idea of waiting until Jan. 10th to publicly commit to resolutions. It gives you time to do a soft launch and maybe prune them a little if they start to seem overambitious after the first week or so! That said, I didn't post any resolutions, but I'm seeing so many great ones on everyone's lists today that I feel like I definitely missed the boat. Good luck with the shiny new you, but I'm sure everyone will be happy with the old you, too!

  17. Great thoughts and they all stand for a happy beginning of the year. And the best thing, they are doable. I have several challenges for the year, we'll see how far that gets me.

Thank you for visiting my goal for 2021: Read more Books from my TBR pile and for leaving your fantastic spreadsheet.

  18. I put Lazy Genius on my Want to Read list. It looks like something I NEED to read. Am reading about Frenchwomen now in Bonjour Happiness, also seen on your blog. It's great!
Your plans are spot-on and should lead to a happy life. Way to go, girlfriend!

  19. The Lazy Genius sounds interesting and exactly the kind of things I'm interested in (I have had my morning routine too for years). Yoga does help a lot. Thumbs up for your challenges :)

  20. I love this! Especially the emphasis on play. I developed an art in the morning habit through 2020 and it's been just great. In part, that's because of what I gave up -- scrolling Facebook first thing in the morning!

  21. I really like your morning routine challenge! I think that's a great way to greet the day. I am so not a morning person so my routine is get coffee in me quickly! haha...

  22. I need to work on my morning routine. Especially getting up earlier! I hope you can stop by:

  23. I think, after 2020, many of us are feeling the need to slow down, take time for ourselves, and connect with people, creativity, or whatever we need. Great resolutions

  24. My morning routine is coffee, reading and journaling. How much I read (inspirational, devotional stuff) depends on how much time I have. If I don't get up before my kid and this goes out the window I can really tell.

  25. I really love your morning routine. It sounds like a lovely way to start the day. I think I need to try something like that.
