Back from Waco and Off to Big Sandy!

The Wine Shoppe in Waco, Texas

We stayed with my sister and her husband last weekend at their place in Waco. We enjoyed an amazing meal with my nephew and his family. We visited Magnolia for the first time. We went to a great farmer's market. We popped into an incredible bookstore, Fables. My husband and brother-in-law golfed. And we sampled fabulous natural wines at my nephew's wine shop, The Wine Shoppe in Waco.

This weekend we are off to see our son's new place in Big Sandy, Texas. We are terribly excited...we will meet a wonderful new person who has just joined our family...I promise to  tell you all about her next week!

Good Thing #1

Our Y is reopening!
It has been closed for nine months.
We thought it might never open again.

Good Thing #2

Our hairdresser got the vaccine.
She had been reluctant to get it.
We told her about our experience.
She got the vaccine the same week.

Good Thing #3

I am grateful for each of you who visits my blog,
for each of you who leaves a comment,
for each of you who joins in the Sunday Salon.
Thank you for being a Good Thing in my life.

I'm happy you joined us here at the Sunday Salon. Sunday Salon is a place to link up and to share what we have been doing during the week. It's a great way to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

Some of the things we often talk about at the Sunday Salon:

  • What was your week like?
  • Read any good books? Tell us about them.
  • What other bookish things did you do?
  • What else is going on in your life?

Other places where you may like to link up over the weekend are below. Click on the picture to visit the site.

  1. How excellent that you were able to influence your hairdresser to get vaccinated. And you visited Magnolia - practically my backyard! Also, you've piqued my curiosity about the new person in your family. Who, I wonder, can it be? Have a good week.

    1. This is the Magnolia of Waco fame, not the lovely small town near you.

    1. I didn't buy a thing, though I was tempted in the stationery store.

  3. It must feel so good to know that you influenced someone to get vaccinated. And, let's hope, she'll tell others that it all went well so there is a ripple effect.

I am so glad you're getting to visit family!

    1. Sadly, people are keeping up with what's happening in the world through highly politicized sources these days rather than relying on information that has been carefully sought out.

  5. I'd love to go visit Magnolia, I've been a fan of Chip & Joanna Gaines tv shows and books forever! Glad you got to spend time with family and I'm going to patiently wait to find out who the new "her" to your family is.

  6. Wow, lots of positives here. I am happy that you were able to visit with family and go to Magnolia. I am a huge fan of Chip and Joanna. I hope you have a great visit with your son and family and enjoy the new addition. Isn't it wonderful that you were able to convince your hair dresser to get the vaccine. One person at a time. Have a great week Deb.

  8. I'm glad you had a good visit with your family in Waco! And I hope you have a wonderful time with your son's family!

I'm glad your hairstylist listened to real experience and got her vaccine. I need a haircut but it's so hard to know who's being cautious and who isn't when you don't know very many people in a town.

    Enjoy your week!

  10. We've been to Waco!!
We had our first overnight outing this week. Although we have 74% of people fully vaccinated our numbers are climbing again, so discouraging.

    1. Hopefully, with that percentage of folks vaccinated (and a big Wow! to that) the numbers will slowly drop and the deadliness of the virus will drop.

  25. What was it that you told your hairdresser? I want to know how to change someone's mind about it.

    1. We didn't realize she had not been vaccinated and we told her about our friends' unvaccinated family members who ended up in the hospital (two died). Then we said, "But you've been vaccinated, right?" And she said she hadn't. We got very quiet, and didn't say anything more.

For me, it would be enough to think about my teacher friend who had to have a kidney transplant (her brother's) and takes medicine and is about to start back to teaching with a classroom of seven-year-olds in a district where masks are optional.

  29. Sounds like you had an excellent week. I used to watch Chip and Joanna until they moved to a new network which I don't have access to. I'm intrigued by Waco but doubt I'll ever get there. I don't think I've been even 25 miles from home since I retired. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
