The Backyard Bird Chronicles written and illustrated by Amy Tan: Book Beginnings on Fridays, First Line Friday, The Friday 56, and Book Blogger Hop

Today's Featured Book

The Backyard Bird Chronicles

 by Amy Tan

Genre: Nonfiction

Published: April 23, 2024

Page Count: 320 pages

Summary:

"In 2016, Amy Tan grew overwhelmed by the state of the world: Hatred and misinformation became a daily presence on social media, and the country felt more divisive than ever. In search of peace, Tan turned toward the natural world just beyond her window and, specifically, the birds visiting her yard. But what began as an attempt to find solace turned into something far greater—an opportunity to savor quiet moments during a volatile time, connect to nature in a meaningful way, and imagine the intricate lives of the birds she admired.

Tracking the natural beauty that surrounds us, The Backyard Bird Chronicles maps the passage of time through daily entries, thoughtful questions, and beautiful original sketches. With boundless charm and wit, author Amy Tan charts her foray into birding and the natural wonders of the world."

While watching hummingbirds buzz around me, I recalled a fantasy every child has: that I could win the trust of wild animals and they would willingly come to me."

"February 15, 2019

I noticed that a lone Lesser Goldfinch sitting on a seed feeder did not move when I came out onto the patio. I had a bad feeling as I approached. It's eyes were nearly swollen shut. A pain shot through my heart. Conjunctivitis."

The purpose of THE BOOK BLOGGER HOP is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, and befriend other bloggers. THE BOOK BLOGGER HOP is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer

August 2nd-8th - August is National Romance Awareness Month. Do you have a favorite romantic book to suggest to other readers eager to celebrate love through literature? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Two of my favorite books with a strong thread of romance are Possession by A.S. Byatt and The Gold Bug Variations by Richard Powers. I keep meaning to reread Gold Bug one of these days.
