To celebrate today, April Fool's Day, I bring you a list of the silliest books I've ever read.
Perhaps you, like me, could use a bit of foolishness these days.
The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Book by Jerry Seinfeld
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
Right Ho, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse
Hank the Cowdog: The Case of the One-Eyed Killer Stud Horse by John R. Erickson
The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible by A. J. Jacobs
The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett
Dreyer's English: An Utterly Correct Guide to Clarity and Style by Benjamin Dreyer
Potato Pants by Laurie Keller
Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome
Strange Planet by Nathan W. Pyle
Please, please, please
share your silliest recommendations.
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each Tuesday That Artsy Reader Girl assigns a topic and then post her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.
I love Strange Planet, and Stranger Planet so much! Let's see, other funny books: Less by Greer; The Netanyahus by Cohen; Subpar Parks by Share; Winterdance by Paulsen; A Walk in the Woods by Bryson.
ReplyDeleteDidn’t Dave Barry used to be funny?
ReplyDeleteAlso Carl Hiaasen.
DeleteIndubitably!
DeleteI loved Where the Sidewalk Ends when I was a kid!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I loved Where the Sidewalk Ends! Those poetry books were so fun! I think my first one was Falling Up!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Not sure how silly it is, but we love Freckle Juice in our family.
ReplyDeleteThat Seinfeld book makes you laugh just looking at the cover. Nice list! We have The World According to Homer Simpson for our silly book.
ReplyDeleteHah! We had the same idea and featured two of the same authors, Wodehouse & Jacobs. :D
ReplyDeleteHappy April Fool's day.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up, it felt like everyone other than me had a Shel Silverstein book.

Great list, Deb! Silverstein's books are some of my favorites. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of these books but the humor genre doesn't sound appealing to me.

Except for the Jerry Seinfeld book, these probably would not be considered to be in the humor genre.
Delete"Crazy Aunt Pearl's Divorced, Drunk and Covered in Cat Hair." I wish I hadn't given it away. And Mel Brooks autobiography!
ReplyDeleteOh my!
DeleteI am adding Dreyer's English to my TBR now. Of course, I love Where the Sidewalk Ends and P. G. Wodehouse as well (though has been a while since I read the books). Did not realize there was a book about that Seinfeld show - I should look for it.
ReplyDeleteJeeves is always good for a laugh. I can't think of anything lighthearted and silly I've read recently beyond the funnies in the paper. I'll have to remedy this soon.
ReplyDeleteFun list. I listened to the Comedians in Car book a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWhen We Were Very Young, AA Milne (James James Morrison Morrison) (The King's Breakfast) ... OK, so I'm not in my second childhood, just never grew out of my first when it comes to silly literature. Those poems still make me laugh (I don't even need to look at the book) . I love children's books that also appeal to the old(er) person reading out loud to them. And Thanks for the reminder of the adult literature -- re-reading some Wodehouse seems like a truly excellent thing to do right now.
ReplyDeleteLOL, love this!! I have P. G. Wodehouse on my TBR, just haven't gotten there yet.
