Here are some of my favorite musical genres for reading.
In order, starting with liveliest, with links to my Pandora stations, are:
And, of course, there is always the best musical accompaniment: silence. No link needed.
What do you listen to while you read?
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.
What a great idea, to link to Pandora! I like smooth jazz too, and nature as well- it's relaxing. In fact I think I'll swing over there right now and listen to some smooth jazz... :)
ReplyDeleteYes. It's perfect for reading. Blogging, too.
DeleteI'm one of those 'silence is golden' people when reading. I could probably handle a yoga/spa type channel. :-)
ReplyDeleteI bet most readers pick silence.
DeleteI don't listen to any music when reading but I can see smooth jazz being really good in the background.
ReplyDeleteYes. Agree.
DeleteWow, your music taste is totally different from mine. I like country, metal, punk pop/rock, rock, and anything that sounds like it might've been played in a Tudor court... Jazz is really relaxing though, catchy too :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm always looking for music that is soothing!
DeleteI didn't know one could share Pandora stations. What a clever idea. Now I am adding all your stations to my list. I haven't thought of John Micheal Talbot for years. Going to his station next.
ReplyDeleteJohn Michael Talbot is wonderful.
DeleteI love listening to pretty much anything while reading - though if there's lyrics, it needs to be a song I know really, really well, otherwise I run the risk of getting distracted from my book. Otherwise, I've got a mix CD that I love listening to that has some jazz but mostly it's trumpet and violin heavy symphony music. I do adore some of the big band/swing music though and think it would totally complement certain books.

It's difficult for me to listen to music with lyrics when I'm reading.
DeleteI have to have something on in the background sometimes but it can't be anything vocal or I get distracted. I love your list! I'll have to check out a few of those stations.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time I'm happy with silence.
Deletesilence - no link needed - LOL love it! :) My TTT
ReplyDeleteAlthough there probably is a Pandora station with just silence!
DeleteGreat topic! I often compile a soundtrack to listen to when I read.
ReplyDeleteI can only really read in silence! Sometimes I can have the TV on as background noise, but I can never listen to music: I get too absorbed in it and then I lose all track of the book. I might try to train myself using some of your stations, though - they're awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I tend to just listen to piano music when reading as that way I can't get distracted by any lyrics!
