Book Blogger Hop: How I'd Like to Rate Books

I love to read.
I especially love travel memoirs,
children's books, books about happiness, 
creative nonfiction, and literary fiction.

Do you use a rating system for your reviews and if so, what is it and why?

I've been writing reviews of my books since 2003. I've always rated every book 0-10. But I've never used a rating system here at my blog. I want to use a rating system.

If I could, I would steal this rating system, created by Jan T. at her Yahoo group, happily_engaged_in_reading:

10 One of the best, worth adding to my permanent collection

9 Compelling, wonderful, should force strangers to read this

8 Very good, happy I read it

7 Quite good actually

6 Okay plus, good, but not so remarkable

5 Okay, pleasant enough but entirely forgettable

4 I read this under duress or a sense of obligation to the group

3 Why did I bother?

2 I read this only due to lack of nearby cereal boxes

1 Painful, but continued reading anyway

0 Despicable, vile; continued reading to burn off purgatory time

    I used to rate books on a scale of 1-5 but quit because it was so limited. I love this scale and just might have to steal it.

    I use a simple rating system, mainly because I do my book blog for fun and I like the K.I.S.S rule :)

    1 - hated it, couldn't finish
    2 - didn't like the book
    3 - liked the book
    4 - loved the book
    5 - couldn't put it down

    Simple.

    I have always used a 5 star system myself, but I do agree that 10 stars allows more latitude. I wish Goodreads allowed half-star options--sometimes a book just falls between the stars!

    wow is that an all inclusive list or WHAT?? i actually think it's a little too much. i have a rating system that i made up based on looking at other book blogger's rating systems. Mine starts at four paws (cuz i love doggies) and goes to ick if i didnt like it. it works for me for now!

    So what do you think of Gone with the Wind? I loved that book and said it was my favorite for years until other replaced it in my heart, but perhaps I need to reread it.

    Thanks for hopping by my blog! The 1-10 system you talked about sounds very interesting, but for me, it would get a little complicated because I'd forget which number means what, exactly.

    I'm enjoying Gone With the Wind, Anne Bennett. I'm most intrigued with Scarlett. She's quite functional. Crisis hits and she does what she has to do, refusing to worry about things that are outside her control.

    I do have a rating system (as you saw from your visit) because it makes it easier to sum up my feelings about books.
