Paris in July: Sunday Mass at Notre Dame

It is a glorious Sunday morning, and I am in Paris.

I think I will go to Mass. At Notre Dame.

You can't take photos inside during Mass, of course. But, let me tell you, it is glorious. You've never heard organ music like organ music in an ancient cathedral. And you have never heard Mass until you have heard Mass in French. In Notre Dame.

The Mass was packed. But, sadly, mostly with tourists.

Notre Dame!

  1. Notre Dame is always packed with tourists these days! I wonder why you find it sad.

  2. Would be better if it was in Latin like it used to be. You were lucky going there, looks amazing

    1. I agree. I think Latin added to the mystery that is my faith.

  3. I've only visited Notre Dame as a "tourist" but I would love to take time to worship there one day. Another dream (although not Paris related) is to be a part of the Evensong service at Westminster Abbey.

  5. What a great experience. I've visited Notre Dame many times, but never been to Mass. There are always more reasons to visit isn't there?

  6. So cool! I love the architecture and recognize the detail around those front doors. We spent a lot of time studying the entire building in an Art History class (in Nebraska - in person would have been more fun!). :)

  7. I've loved listening to the organ in Notre Dame but not being Catholic, never attended a service there. But I think it would be very moving.
