Back from Arkansas and Off to North Texas

We are back from a week in beautiful Arkansas. Now we are off to North Texas to see our granddaughter, Bailey, at Senior Night at her high school and our granddaughter, Annie, on her 6th birthday.

 What I Read Last Week:

Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci ⭐⭐⭐⭐

What I Am Reading:

The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles (Novel)
Book Girl: A Journey through the Treasures & Transforming Power of a Reading Life by Sarah Clarkson (Books)
The Gastronomical Me by M.F.K. Fisher (Food Nonfiction)
The Art of Eating by M.F.K. Fisher (Food Nonfiction)
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens (Classic)

Have you read Lincoln Highway yet?
The Stanley Tucci memoir?

I've recently found my way, for the first time, to Gilmore Girls. How delightful it has been to discover that one of the GGs, Rory, is an avid reader. This week, I ran across this fun post: The 70 Most Relatable Gilmore Girls Moments for Bibliophiles.

I heard Jonathan Franzen speak about his new book, Crossroads, this week via Zoom at Houston Inprint. Now I need to read the book, I think.

Last week I posted here on my blog:

(with lots of Arkansas hiking photos)

Some of the things we often talk about at the Sunday Salon:

  • What was your week like?
  • Read any good books? Tell us about them.
  • What other bookish things did you do?
  • What else is going on in your life?

Other places where you may like to link up over the weekend are below. Click on the picture to visit the site.

  1. Your reading list sounds great. I've read several of your selections, or plan to read them soon. That is, as soon as I finish the book I'm slowly reading now! "The Lincoln Highway" has been waiting on my kindle for weeks.

  2. I bet you are enjoying your travels once again. I love your Little Free Library. I started reading Crossroads, it is very good and quite the tome 600+ pages (doing a combo read/listen.) I also want to read Cloud Cuckoo, Lincoln Highway and The Magician. Have a good week.

    1. Though I started it (and am greatly enjoying it), I've set aside Crossroads aside until after Nonfiction November.

  5. Happy travels and celebrations! Big GG fan here, although I feel like the reboot they did ruined Rory for me.

  6. My daughter and I used to watch The Gilmore Girls when it first aired, but stopped after a few seasons. I would love to go back and start watching from the beginning. I love the cast and storylines. Lauren Graham is also excellent in the series Parenthood.

Isn't wonderful to have family visits to look forward to?! I hope you have a great time with your granddaughters and wish you a very happy birthday next week.

    1. I enjoyed Book Girl a lot, wrote down about forty book recommendations, and passed it along to another person who I think will enjoy it.

  18. I've never watched Gilmore Girls. I didn't like Franzen's 27th City book, but would try his latest.

    1. I think I've only read one book of Franzen's, The Corrections. This one is supposed to be part of a trilogy.

  19. I'm listening to Stanley Tucci's book now - his narration is perfection! I'm hoping to read The Lincoln Highway soon, but not sure I'll get to it before the end of the year. Franzen's new book was excellent - I'd have loved to hear what he had to say about it! Happy Halloween and happy early birthday!

  26. Happy early Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day and a fun visit to see your granddaughters. What a great way to spend some free time.

I am looking forward to Nonfiction November starting tomorrow since I have done quite poorly on reading nonfiction so far this year.

  31. We've been doing some traveling too -- mostly weekends or overnights. Happy birthday to you! Next weekend I'm doing an overnight in NYC with my kids taking me to a Broadway show (Ain't Too Proud) for my birthday! I'm waiting for the Amor Towles book as a library ebook. Book Girl sounds like a great choice for Nonfiction November!

  32. Happy belated birthday. I hope you are enjoying your trips! I'm a bit curious how Franzen was ... personable? friendly?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The person interviewing Franzen was described as a friend, but their interaction came across to me as awkward. Franzen seemed determined to come across as a serious author, and that felt forced. He seems to do better on the page than in real life.

  33. Happy birthday and have a wonderful trip! Your photos are beautiful and I love your little free library. I never got into Gilmore Girls because Lorelei's relationship with her mother was a bit to close for comfort for me but my daughter absolutely loved it. Weirdly she looks enough like the girl who plays Rory that people used to stop her on campus when she was in college. It also made for a very easy Halloween costume because all she really needed was a blue blazer and a headband. Have a great week!

  34. While you were gone I straightened your LFL. Your pumpkin was gone, and I picked up jack-o-lanterns from the yard where the high wind scattered them and put them inside. I also added a toy. It was fun to mess with another library.
