I definitely started at least some of these, but what did I finish? Maybe nothing, as it has been a busy week of hiking and hanging out and playing card games and relaxing. These are what I took along:
Renewal: How Nature Reawakens Our Creativity, Compassion, and Joy
by Andrés R. Edwards
The Hummingbird's Gift: Wonder, Beauty, and Renewal on Wings by Sy Montgomery
How to Draw Anything Anytime: A Beginner's Guide to Cute and Easy Doodles
Bread for the Journey: A Daybook of Wisdom and Faith by Henri Nouwen
Art Before Breakfast by Danny Gregory
The Book of Delights: Essays by Ross Gay
Hummingbird Salamander: A Novel by Jeff Vandermeer
Extraordinary Insects: Weird. Wonderful. Indispensible. The Ones Who Run Our World.
by Anne Sverdrup-Thygeson
On Trails: An Exploration by Robert Moor
Map: Collected and Last Poems by Wislawa Szymborska
I am eagerly looking forward to reading all of the Narnia books for the first time beginning the last weekend in November with Calmgrove. I bought all the Narnia books as ebooks last week; Amazon offered a sweet deal with $5 off the whole series. Do you have any interest in joining in? Find out more about #Narniathon21 here.
This weekend is Dewey's 24-Hour Read-a-thon. I plan to try to get in as much reading as I can with the books I took along to Arkansas but did not finish. I also have a library copy of The Lincoln Highway and Stanley Tucci's memoir, Taste, that are due back in a few days. For snacks, I plan to keep the coffee coming.
More about the readathon is here.

I hope you enjoy the Narnia books. I remember liking them when I read them decades ago, but typical me, I liked the beginning of the series more than the later books. I look forward to seeing some photos from Arkansas....
ReplyDeleteI am not sure how it is that I have never read them. I seem to have read every other fantasy series when I was a kid.
DeleteLoads of fun art books -- I like the title "Art Before Breakfast." I've never read the Narnia's either but November is my bad month. I'll be lucky to make my 2021 reading goal period! Looking forward to hearing about your trip!
ReplyDeleteNovember is a busy month. I hope that I can get everything done.
DeleteI never get much reading done on vacation either. Glad you at least got started on some of your books.
ReplyDeleteI have never done a read-a-thon, but it sounds like fun.
I do plan to participate in the Narniathon! I have read the first two books already this year, but really want to get the whole series in and this will be a fun way to do it.
Have a great weekend!
I went ahead and bought all seven of the ebooks when Amazon offered a nice discount.
DeleteI’m always awed by how you can read many books at once. I would totally lose the thread of each one as I tried the next. I can only do one at a time. My post today is the last wrap up of my trip to Oregon and nearby states.
ReplyDeletebest… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
It looks like you had a fabulous vacation in Oregon, Mae.
DeleteI have read all of the Narnia books. I did it as a personal challenge back when I was teaching 6th grade and we had introduced the students to the Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe via a Beta-tape machine hooked up to a TV as a device to get (then hand written--no computers) permanent records done. It kept the kids busy, but three of mine read the book afterwards. I challenged them to read on in the series, and so, of course, I had to model the behavior I wanted in them myself. I read through seven books in the series by the end of that summer.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's exactly how I ended up reading all the Harry Potter books.
DeleteWhat we do for our students!!!
DeleteI love your 3 Good Things! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been years since I joined in the Read-A-Thon challenge. I wonder how many years it's been going?!
Dewey's was the first blogging event I participated in and that was fourteen years ago. Wow. Fourteen years ago.
DeleteThat's a beautiful picture from Arkansas.
ReplyDeleteIf only I had taken it...the photo I took from the same location isn't quite so spectacular!
DeleteThat picture of Arkansas - so beautiful! Hope you are enjoying the read-a-thon! All the books you listed sound delightful. I love the mix of art and nature.
ReplyDeleteI focused on those two themes.
DeleteI've completed one book so far for Readathon and my eyes are so sleepy I don't know if I'll even start another one. Looking forward to the Arkansas pics!
ReplyDeleteHappy readathoning!
I just managed to read one book during readathon, but, hey, it's something.
DeleteBeautiful Arkansas in autumn.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the Readathon. As for me, I just finished rereading Beloved by Toni Morrison. It was just as depressing the second time around as when I first read it years ago.
I wish I were able to read something depressing, Dorothy. I keep waiting for life to get a little less so.
DeleteWelcome back! Sounds like you had a great time. I'm looking forward to seeing your photos. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI am eager to post my photos. I'll post a few this week.
DeleteI like that you bring library books along with you on your trips. I try to download as many books as possible before a road trip and usually get to one or two. I'll have to return to Narnia series. Did you like the movie?
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the movie, but maybe I'll take a look at it during the event.
DeleteI'm glad you had fun in Arkansas, and I hope you were successful with the readathon. I read the first Narnia book as a kid, but I never continued with the series. I probably should. They're classics!
ReplyDeleteI've read two (I think) and I liked both of them, but I want to read the whole series.
DeleteLooking forward to seeing your photos!
ReplyDeleteIt’s been years (ok decades) since I read the Narnia series
I hope the readathon is going well
Wishing you a great reading week
I had a pretty relaxing readathon this time. Mostly I just read.
DeleteI have thought about reading the Narnia books, since I completely missed reading them earlier in my life.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo of Arkansas! I visited Missouri, which is next door to Arkansas, of course, when I was a kid and remembered loving the fall there.
Enjoy your week!
I bet Missouri is similar to Arkansas.
DeleteWe left the afternoons open for resting and reading, so I did actually get a little in.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking you had a great time in Arkansas :) That makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading today!!
It was a perfect vacation.
Deleteglad you are enjoying your time arkansas
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sherry.
DeleteThat photo is just gorgeous... sounds like you had a wonderful trip! Will look forward to your thoughts on both The Lincoln Highway and Stanley Tucci's memoir. I'll probably start Tucci next.
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful place to visit.
DeleteA week of reading, hiking, card games and relaxing sounds wonderful! I'm looking forward to seeing your Arkansas pictures. Have a great week and enjoy your reading!
ReplyDeleteThe nightly games were very fun!
DeleteHow was Arkansas? Was it really beautiful? The Narnia read-athon sounds like a good idea though I have a bit too much on my platter at the moment. I did read much about CS Lewis this year and his marriage ... in the novel Becoming Mrs. Lewis, which was pretty good but (overly?) long. Still I was fascinated by his life story. Enjoy your reads.
ReplyDeleteI found Arkansas to be quiet and filled with beautiful forests. Happily we saw lots of beautiful butterflies, too.
DeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful time in Arkansas. I'm so glad!
ReplyDeleteWait, you've never read all the Narnia books? I thought you'd read all the kids books! :-D I own a couple of compilations in print and can't tell you how many times I've re-read them all. I hope you enjoy!
Have a great week!
I know, I know! I am sadly behind in my Narnia-ness, but I will catch up beginning at the end of November.
DeleteI did read the whole Narnia series years ago. I hope you enjoy them. Arkansas looks lovely. I did drive through once on the way to Florida but would love to explore more. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you've enjoyed your breakaway! I need one, but it's not going to happen any time soon. That's okay, enough things to do here at home.
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing the Narniathon21 under our attention! I am definitely in and just made a note in my calendar.
Last year I promised myself I will look into Non Fiction November, but I didn't get to it and still haven't got enough non fictions to manage even one post. So I will once again observe this year.
Have a good week ahead Debbie!

Narniathon sounds right up my street-I'll check it out! Hope the readathon went well for you. I haven't done one in a while.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful week, Deb. I love that you were so busy. Enjoy all your upcoming Narnia Books.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's roommate is from Bentonville, Arkansas. I've been hearing so much about the state and I h have to say it looks lovely. I can't wait to see your photos.
