I participated in Project FeederWatch this winter.
These are my favorite backyard bird photos from this winter.
Red-bellied woodpecker
Yellow-rumped warbler
American robin
Pileated woodpecker
Cedar waxwings
Carolina wren
Red-breasted nuthatch
Red-shouldered hawk
Northern cardinal
Purple finch
Carolina chickadee
Chipping sparrow
Tufted titmouse
Eastern bluebird
Savannah sparrow
I'm not a good bird watcher and can only identify the obvious. We saw a woodpecker on our walk the other day. My pup is fascinated by him. We see him at least once a week in a tree, pecking away.
ReplyDeleteI was taken aback by the pileated woodpecker. He is enormous. He could bring down a tree.
Deletebeautiful bird photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carol.
DeleteI especially love those red-headed woodpeckers and cardinals in fall and winter.
ReplyDeleteNothing like the red of those birds.
DeleteNice collection you have there. We have a robin nesting behind the rose bush which kept following us around the garden to day after the worms and grubs that we were turning up when we were sorting out the garden
ReplyDeleteFor a while, I had thirty or forty robins wandering around my yard a day.
DeleteBird photography is not easy - I speak from long experience - but you got some really nice pictures there. And a nice variety of birds.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dorothy. That means a lot from someone who knows birds like you do.
DeleteLovely Debbie! I can imagine how much joy it must bring you to take these photos. And the patience to sit and wait for them.

It has been my joy during the pandemic to watch birds.
DeleteGosh, you took great pictures. I only see maybe 4 types of birds around here. Pigeons, doves, crows and sparrows.
ReplyDeleteBefore I started looking closely, I thought we didn't have many here.
DeleteBeautiful birds. The chickadee is my absolute favorite bird. They're such happy looking little creatures but I love watching the robins play in the bird bath. They seem to get such joy from splashing around.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed the chickadees darting back and forth to the feeders, too.
DeleteExcellent photos! It's really hard (at least for me) to get a good picture of birds. Wonder if it would make a difference if I used a real camera instead of my phone ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have a camera, but it's an easy automatic zoom, not fancy, but fast.

DeleteI'm so jealous that you get northern cardinals and red-bellied woodpeckers in your backyard! They don't show up in Utah where I live. Great photos! :)
ReplyDeleteI can now recognize them from far away.
DeleteWonderful post, Deb! Since moving to Oregon, I miss seeing those beautiful cardinals. We used to watch at our feeders in our backyard when we lived in Nebraska. I love the woodpeckers and that sweet little wren. That is quite a plump robin, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteThe wren is one of my favorites. He is still hanging around; I see him almost every day. And, yes, I feed my birds well here!
DeleteAw these are nice. Love the hawk! I'm starting to get into watching birds more.
ReplyDeleteThe hawk was a huge surprise. A bit ominous.
DeleteHow cute ! it must be cold because they are all looking like blown up little balls !
ReplyDeleteThe birds fluff up against the cold wind high up in the trees.
DeleteLiving in Australia now, the bird I miss most there is the robin. It is the state bird of Michigan where I grew up. Lovely photos. 🐧🌻
ReplyDeleteI bet you see some interesting birds in Australia, though.
DeleteThese were all your backyard? I am incredibly impressed, both with your photography and the variety of gorgeous birds here.
ReplyDeleteMy niece, who takes professional quality photos, told me her secret is to take lots of shots.
DeleteThese are a lot of different birds ! I hear them a lot, because I live in the country, but as I have cats... I'm glad they stay out of reach ! I try to learn to recognize their songs, now I know there is a tit who finds himself at home on the tall tree in front of our building :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always running feral cats out of our yard. I love cats, too, but birds come first.
DeleteThese are wonderful pictures! I can't get over the variety of birds that visited your backyard! I love it. We actually set up a bird feeder after the winter storm because I heard that central Texas birds were also affected by it. I'm really enjoying it. Maybe one day I'll actually learn more about birds!
ReplyDeleteI've learned so much this winter by participating in Project FeederWatch.
DeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by!
DeleteWe have quite a few of the same birds here but I think we are on the same latitude. The pileated woodpeckers always make me smile when they call out. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense.
DeleteThey are lovely photos of the birds.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Now if I can only get a good shot of the hummingbird who keeps popping by our feeder...
DeleteGreat pictures!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cori.
DeleteYour feeder really attracts a lot of different species. We don’t have as many, but we also find birding to be a great joy in bad times! And this week we have escaped for a while to new birding territory.
ReplyDeletebe well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
lol, I started do say I love your woodpeckers and ....... them I realized I actually love all of them :)
ReplyDeleteNice shots. :)
Outstanding photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your gorgeous pictures
ReplyDeleteI love this post so much. I've gotten into birdwatching over this past year, but I don't have the skill or the camera to actually capture them in photo form. These are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWe've really gotten into watching our backyard birds this year. We have some of these in Cleveland. Great pics!
